What We Do
NAMI offers the understanding that only those with the lived experience of mental illness can provide. Together with our grassroots volunteers, we work every day to provide help and hope to millions of Americans. Support, Education, Awareness, Advocacy, Research
Every day, we reach out and respond to those in need. As the navigator of our nine signature education programs, offered in th

ousands of communities across America through our NAMI State Organizations NAMI Affiliates, we ensure hundreds of thousands of families, individuals and educators are served. NAMI is tireless in our efforts to equip and train grassroots volunteer facilitators who provide individual and family support groups in thousands of communities across America. Through the toll-free NAMI HelpLine, we respond personally to hundreds of thousands of requests each year, providing free referral, information and support—a much-needed lifeline for many. Public awareness events and activities including Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW), NAMIWalks, and other efforts, successfully combat stigma, promote awareness and encourage understanding. By responding to current news events as they happen, NAMI ensures that media reporting is compassionate, understanding and accurate in portrayals of mental illness—NAMI promotes solutions. Each day, NAMI effectively shapes the national public policy landscape for people with mental illness and their families and equips grassroots volunteer leaders with the tools, resources and skills necessary to save mental health in all states. NAMI reaches out to our country’s youth and young adults, helping to shape the next generation’s experiences with recovery, encouraging a better tomorrow for all Americans. Recognizing the unique needs of our American heroes and their families, NAMI aggressively reaches out to help offer free and essential NAMI education and support group programs in thousands of local communities. NAMI actively promotes mental health care, support and a caring community for our veterans, their spouses and their children. Tirelessly promoting research, as they have done for decades, NAMI ensures solutions for early intervention, improved treatments and, eventually, a cure for mental illness. Continuing to build and cultivate virtual communities that reach millions of Americans who turn to NAMI through NAMI.org and social media channels for the latest information on treatment, services, supports, advocacy, research happenings, NAMI works every day to offer inspiration, information and encouragement.

We had a great time making our zines a few weeks ago! Milly helped us learn about 7 kinds of rest and we had the chance to express how they show up in our own lives.

Looking to fill that social dimension of rest? Join us this Sunday for a picnic presented by NAMI Glendale's LGBTQ+ programs! We will meet at the bear statue at Ferndell Nature Trail to enjoy some food, nature, and fun! RSVP: https://forms.gle/prXZmR2oqQurBj319

Let's overcome the Sunday scaries together!

Presented by NAMI Glendale’s LGBTQ+ programs, join us at Ferndell Nature Preserve for an afternoon of food and fun!

Meet others in the community, chat, and enjoy nature to end your week in a happy headspace.

The event will start with a 20 minute walk on the beautiful and shaded Ferndell Nature Trail at 2:00 PM before we reach our picnic site where we will have food and games to take part in!

Not sure if you can make it to the walk with us? Just join us for the picnic! We will pack up around 5:00 PM.

Jimmy John’s sandwiches (vegetarian options available) and water will be provided, feel free to bring other snacks and beverages (non-alcoholic) to enjoy. Please RSVP using the link from our bio so we can make sure we have enough for everyone!

Meet us at the iconic bear statue at Ferndell Nature Trail in the Southwest corner of Griffith Park. Picnic table seating will be available but limited, we recommend you bring a chair or blanket to sit on in case of a busy weekend. It is also recommended to leave early or take public transportation as parking can be tricky on weekends. Look for street parking on Fern Dell Drive or Fern Dell Place!

* LGBTQ+ Allies are welcome to join. As guests in this space, we ask that you be mindful of the safe space we are creating for the LGBTQ+ community.

Date: Sunday June 7, 2026

Time: 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Location: 2333 Fern Dell Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90068

Just one more day until our virtual Rest as Resistance Zine Workshop, it's not too late to register!

Tomorrow at 6:00pm, Milly J. Correa will guide participants through making a zine focused on the necessary topic of rest, a great way to engage in Mental Health Awareness Month! Milly is a graphic designer, Certified Peer Support Specialist, and artivist with 10+ years in nonprofit communications. Rooted in lived experience, they believe creativity and community care are inseparable.

The only materials you need are a paper and pencil, but feel free to gather more colorful art supplies to make the zine your own!

The form to RSVP and get the Zoom link can be found in the link in our bio, or by screenshotting this flyer and pressing on the QR code in the photos app.

See you there!
