What do the words “SUCCESS” and “FAILURE” mean to you?

Do you make room in your life for failure, or is success the only option?

This week at Elevate Counseling we are talking about how to best support our kids through successes AND failures. If your child tries to avoid failure at all costs, it may be due to having a “fixed”, versus a “growth”, mindset.

Check out my article written for the Phoenix Mom’s Blog where I give some tips on how you can encourage a growth mindset in your kids!

A growth mindset isn't just accepting feedback & being open-minded. It’s taking feedback, learning from experience, & developing strategies to improve.

Oftentimes we get so busy with life doing the day-to-day tasks, finishing deadlines, rushing through school or work projects, and hurrying onto the next thing on the list that we forget to stop and enjoy it. ⁣

I like to take cues from our cat, Bill. He has no problem “asserting himself,” demanding petting and a comfortable spot to lay.

Taking the time to do something you enjoy relaxes your body, reduces stress, boosts your immune system, and helps you build up emotional reserves for the upcoming week. ⁣

Have you ever heard of “Passion Projects” or “Genius Hour”? These strategies are being adopted by many educational institutions and corporations to foster a love for learning in students and employees.

This week at Elevate Counseling, we are talking about some of the tips I’ve shared on the North Phoenix Mom’s Blog to encourage self-motivated learning in our kids. If the strategies mentioned above are not being implemented in your child’s school…no worries! You can use these strategies at home! Follow the link below to learn how!

Use these tips to use passion projects to increase motivation and encourage learning opportunities with your kids.

Many people find the sound of chewing bothersome (my husband included). But for some, it goes beyond a minor annoyance.

It can produce panic or rage. It's called Misophonia and is related to an overactive sensory processing system.

👏I love that the Washington Post is bringing this kind of thing to a broader audience 💕

Not much is known about misophonia, a condition that didn’t even get a name until 2001.

✨Elevate Spotlight✨

Hi! My name is Lauren!

I love working with teens and adults in the therapy room. As a gifted individual, my teenage years were especially difficult as I tried to navigate heightened expectations and an overwhelming lack of systemic support.

Now, as a mental health therapist, I aspire to address these gaps and help other gifted teens improve their self-advocacy and reach their full potential.

I hope to foster a validating space that inspires clients to channel their inner strengths, challenge their self-defeating beliefs, and improve their overall life satisfaction using a combination of Cognitive-Behavioral, person-centered, and strengths-based techniques.

While I highly value the therapeutic relationship, I love to get to know my clients outside of their current struggles. I enjoy bringing my personality into counseling, and I encourage clients to fully express theirs.

In "psychological" terms, we refer to this as "projection."⁣

This tendency to make assumptions and jump to conclusions about others based on your own (often irrational) thoughts and feelings can lead to a great deal of anxiety around other people and can mire you in unpleasant emotions like anger, disappointment, resentment, and prejudice.⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
The trick is to "see through" these mental missteps so that you can break the cycle.⁣

Learn more about how we can help you do this through the link in our bio!⁣

It's so important for parents, educators and students to understand the signs of dyslexia and find ways to help. That's why MindShift published the Guide to Understanding Dyslexia.

Many children struggle with dyslexia and have difficulty reading in school. We created the MindShift Guide to Understanding Dyslexia as a printable resource for parents, educators and kids who are looking for help.

Our brains often take shortcuts to make up for missing context, but this can pave the way for some serious thinking errors.

This week at Elevate Counseling, we're talking about considering context when it comes to our relationships with others and our relationship with ourselves. Check out our blog post written by our intern, Kusha Giahi, to learn about how we can shift our thinking by considering context!

Our brains often take shortcuts to make up for missing context, but this can pave the way for some serious thinking errors.

✨ Teach your children to be lifelong learners through MODELING: ⁣

Watching a parent set a scary, ambitious goal and talk about the process of achieving it is the most direct way to teach children that learning and striving to be a better human goes beyond the school years. ⁣

This is a picture of me and my mom. My mom and dad modeled athletic drive, physical commitment, and the IMPORTANCE of a PLAN throughout my childhood. ⁣

Their process-driven approach through modeling made much more of an impact than if they had spent their time lecturing about commitment without providing workable examples.⁣

Here’s to all of the mentors in our lives. And let us all do our best to manifest the process for those we hope to fill our shoes 💕⁣
