HALFWAY.
I’ve been thinking about that word a lot lately.
If I’m fortunate enough to live to 100, I’m somewhere around the halfway point.
And strangely, that doesn’t make me feel old.
It makes me feel awake.
Because longevity isn’t simply about adding more years to our lives. It’s about asking what kind of life we want to be capable of living in those years.
Will I have the strength to move?
The energy to explore?
The clarity to stay engaged?
The health to enjoy the people I love?
The emotional and spiritual capacity to actually be present for it?
There are no guarantees. And health is never completely within our control.
But there is so much that is ours to steward.
The food we choose.
How we move our bodies.
How we sleep.
The relationships we nurture.
How we manage stress.
What we believe.
The thoughts we continually rehearse.
The practices that reconnect us to something deeper than ourselves.
I’ve become increasingly convinced that caring for ourselves is one of the most important responsibilities we have.
Not from fear.
Not from obsession.
Not because we need to control every outcome.
But because this is the one precious life we’ve been given.
This body carries us through it.
Our mind shapes how we experience it.
Our emotional health affects how we love through it.
And our spiritual life helps us make meaning of it.
That’s what radical responsibility means to me.
Not perfection.
Participation.
Becoming an active partner in my own health and asking:
If this really is only halfway…how do I want to live the second half?
I want mine to be strong.
Curious.
Connected.
Purposeful.
Well nourished.
Fully awake.
And very, very alive.
Here’s to the second half. 🤍
