Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001.

We remember the lives lost, the families whose lives were forever changed, and the first responders, healthcare workers, service members, and ordinary citizens who stepped forward with extraordinary courage.

Twenty-five years later, we still remember the strength and unity shown in the days that followed. May we continue to care for our neighbors, serve one another with compassion, and pray for our nation and for those who continue to carry the loss of that day.

Do Not Grow Weary

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
—Galatians 6:9 (KJV)

In the first days of a crisis, needs are visible and help often comes quickly. Recovery, however, takes much longer.

For the families affected by the Mukluk Fire, the difficult work of rebuilding is only beginning. As days pass and attention moves elsewhere, they will continue to need prayer, encouragement, practical assistance, and the reassurance that they have not been forgotten.

God calls us not to grow weary in doing good. We may not be able to meet every need, but each meal provided, donation given, prayer offered, and act of kindness can bring hope to someone facing an uncertain future.

At our clinics, we are thankful to be part of communities where people continue to care for one another. May God give us faithful hearts and willing hands—not only in the urgency of a crisis, but throughout the long road toward recovery.

🇺🇸 Happy Labor Day!

This Labor Day, we’re thankful for the hardworking people who serve our communities each day.

Our clinic will be closed Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. We will reopen with regular hours on Tuesday.

As we look ahead to the end of the year, we want to take a moment to recognize Ruth Hunt, NP, and share a little more about the person behind the care she provides.
Ruth first joined Cross Road Medical Center in 2019 as an RN in the emergency room and urgent care. Her time in Glennallen became important in more ways than one—it was also where she met her husband and best friend, Derik!

After 11 years of nursing experience in the ICU, cardiac catheterization lab, emergency care, perioperative care, and international humanitarian deployments with Samaritan’s Purse, Ruth felt the Lord leading her to become a Nurse Practitioner. She completed her NP training at Cedarville University and then chose to return to rural Alaska to reconnect with people she knew and help fill an important need in our communities.

When Ruth returned, we knew she would be serving with us for only a short season before she and Derik moved to Michigan. That made us even more grateful that she was willing to come back and share her experience, compassion, and newly acquired skills with our patients and communities during this important time.

Ruth’s heart for healthcare is closely tied to her faith. She wants her patients to feel heard, cared for, and included as partners in their healthcare decisions. Most of all, she hopes each person she treats experiences the love of Jesus through the care they receive.

Outside the clinic, Ruth enjoys hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, reading, cooking, and serving through her church and mission work. She also has a degree in music performance and sings and plays the piano and flute.

Ruth will continue serving with us through the end of this year. We are thankful she chose to return to our clinics as a Nurse Practitioner after previously serving with us as an RN. Although we knew this season would be brief, her service has made a meaningful difference.

Ruth, thank you for sharing this season with us. We pray God’s blessing over you and Derik as you begin your next chapter—and we hope the door will always remain open for us to serve together again in the future.

Hope After the Fire

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
—Psalm 46:1 (KJV)

The Mukluk Fire is now contained, and we are deeply thankful for the firefighters, emergency personnel, volunteers, organizations, and neighbors who worked so faithfully to protect the Tok community.

Containment brings relief, but it does not mean the hardship is over. Approximately 50 families lost their homes. They now face the painful work of sorting through what remains, finding places to live, replacing necessities, and rebuilding their lives.

Scripture reminds us that God is not distant during times of trouble. He is present—offering refuge to those who are grieving, strength to those who are weary, and hope when the way forward feels uncertain.

As the immediate emergency gives way to recovery, may we continue to surround these families with prayer, practical help, generosity, and steady support. The fire may be contained, but our care for one another must continue.

May God comfort every family who has suffered loss, strengthen those helping with recovery, and guide the Tok community through the days ahead.

Honoring Those Who Serve

“Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;”

As this difficult week comes to a close, we pause to honor the people who have served the Tok community throughout the Mukluk Fire.

We continue to pray for those who have lost homes, property, and the familiar places that were part of their daily lives. Behind every report of loss are individuals and families facing uncertainty, grief, and the difficult work of beginning again.

We are deeply grateful for the firefighters, emergency personnel, public servants, healthcare workers, volunteers, churches, businesses, organizations, and neighbors who have responded. Some have worked directly on the fire. Others have provided shelter, meals, supplies, transportation, information, prayer, and comfort. Every act of service has mattered.

In times of crisis, we are reminded that a community’s strength is found in people who are willing to stand beside one another. May we continue to pray, give, serve, and care for our neighbors—not only during the immediate emergency, but throughout the recovery that follows.

May God protect those who are still responding, comfort those who have suffered loss, and strengthen every person helping Tok move forward.

Stronger Together

This week has reminded us that unity is more than working together during ordinary days. It is standing beside one another when circumstances suddenly become difficult.

When people face loss and uncertainty, each person may have something different to offer—prayer, practical help, encouragement, supplies, time, or simply a steady presence. No single person can meet every need, but when we serve together, God can use our combined efforts to bring comfort and hope.

At our clinics, we have seen that spirit of unity throughout the communities we serve. We are grateful for every person who has reached out, offered help, and shown concern for our neighbors affected by the Tok fire.

May we continue to care for one another faithfully, remembering that we are always stronger when we stand and serve together.
