Communication is key! 🔑Here are some things I bring with me to births that help us communicate as a team, including your providers! First off - I wear a sweatshirt that let’s everyone know who I am! I make a point to introduce myself, but sometimes, if I’m walking into a high intensity situation (or a provider is), there’s little time for introductions. ➡️I also bring a copy (or two) of your birth preferences. If you haven’t had a chance to share this with the team, I will. ➡️This is my field notes journal - I’m documenting names, times, and other important notes so we can refer to it as needed. I also use these notes as a basis for my Birth Timeline Write-up that I give to my clients after their birth. ➡️And finally, a new addition to my bag - dry erase markers! I’ve noticed that the white boards in hospital labor rooms are rarely used. These white boards are a great opportunity to share names, key information, and next steps with anyone that may come in. Maybe I’ll even try drawing a flower or smiley face for you. (Check out this podcast for more info.
