A new research study recently published in a high quality peer reviewed medical journal from the Prodromos Stem Cell Institute documents significant clinical improvement in Parkinson’s disease patients treated with exosome rich mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) secretome.
In this case series, 19 patients received intranasal umbilical cord-derived MSC secretome, with researchers evaluating clinical changes through changes in their PDQ 39 score: a standard Parkinson’s disease specific validated rating instrument as well as their subjective responses and physical exam changes.
The study reported improvements across several measured symptoms and physical exam and functional parameters, with no serious adverse events from treatment. Researchers also noted important limitations, including the study’s short follow-up period and the need for further research to better understand the treatment’s potential effects. And the PSCI has now submitted for publication a much longer and larger study of roughly 50 patients documenting continued success over a longer follow up period.
