In our own practices it became evident that there was a gap, an inconsistency related to the quality of

supervisory practice. As supervision is an intricate component of quality therapeutic care, it deserves its own level of expertise and clinical practice in order to support the important work clinicians provide to their clients. We provide various continuous educational opportunities, clinical consultation, clinical supervision for Colorado LPC, LMFT and supervision of supervision for Approved Clinical Supervisor credential.

Course Description: This course provides a framework for the necessary documentation, assessment, case conceptualization and treatment planning when working with clients with substance misuse and abuse. Client motivation and commitment to treatment begins with the assessment and diagnostic phase that typically occurs at intake. This course will consider the differences between screening and assessment and the use of assessment instruments. The class will educate students about components of the clinical assessment such as a bio-psychosocial interview, assessing risk for self­ harm, identifying cultural needs and supports, problem domains, determining the stage of readiness for change, and identifying strengths of the client. Determining the client’s diagnosis utilizing the DSM 5 criteria, and determining the level of care to best support a client using the ASAM criteria, will be discussed. Stages of treatment and systems of care will be covered along with facets of treatment planning. This course is provided by a BHA Approved Provider and will count toward the Colorado Certified Addiction Counselor Training Program.

Time/Duration: Virtual Classroom meets online via Zoom from 8:30 – 4:00 (14 hours) for 2 consecutive days. Students will also have handouts and resource material for the class, a final exam, and a course evaluation. Enrolled students will receive an online classroom login 7 days prior to the class start date.

Access: Students must download the free Zoom application on a video-capable phone, laptop, or desktop prior to class.
