❓ Did the hospital drop Blue Cross Medicare Advantage?
✅ No. Blue Cross stopped offering Medicare Advantage in 31 Minnesota counties, including Pope County, after reporting more than $500 million in Medicare losses. Local hospitals, clinics and providers do not decide where plans are offered.

❓ I live outside Pope County. Can I still get care at GRHS?
✅ Yes. If you live outside Pope County and have a Medicare Advantage plan, you can still receive care at GRHS.

When seconds matter, advanced skills matter. Our Emergency Department and OB providers, RNs, and paramedics recently completed OB-NALS, obstetric and neonatal advanced life support training at GRHS. Repeated hands-on practice in critical procedures builds speed and confidence, so moms and newborns receive expert emergency care. Ongoing education like this is an investment in the team who cares for our community.

Nearly every hospital in Minnesota is nonprofit and community owned, with doors open to everyone, no matter what. A new statewide report shows that promise is under strain: emergency departments had a record 2.1 million visits in 2024, Medicare and Medicaid pay well below the actual cost of providing care, and only 48 of 98 rural hospitals still deliver babies. This is Minnesota's crisis of care, and it's already reaching patients across the state. Protecting access to care for every Minnesotan will take all of us — patients, caregivers, communities and the people we elect.

Our latest Rural Monitor article highlights how philanthropic funding is helping rural facilities in Minnesota, Nevada, North Dakota, and Wyoming access point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) equipment and training. Through ongoing onsite education, regional conferences, and mentorship, more than 1,000 providers have learned to assess patients at the bedside and decide quickly whether a transfer is needed or if care can happen locally.
