We are blessed by the talents of many wonderful volunteers! Recently, our team was treated to two mornings of team-building training led by Jeannie Corey, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN. Dr. Corey retired in January as a professor of nursing at JMU, and we are so thankful for her willingness to share her wisdom with us. Our team learned more about effective communication, emotional intelligence, and how they impact patient care. Thank you Jeannie for sharing the gifts of your time and expertise!

At GMCC, we see every day how difficult it can be for individuals and families to choose between buying groceries, paying bills, or purchasing medications. Access to nutritious food is essential to good health. Our partners at Bread for Life help us keep our clinic food pantry stocked so patients have access to food at their appointments. This week our team picked up food for distribution in support of the United Way of the Virginia Peninsula's Day of Action, which focused on stocking food pantries for the summer. We are thankful for all these partnerships that help us care for our patients!

We are grateful to the Junior League of Hampton Roads for their generous $1,000 grant to support our Hygiene Supplies Closet! Sunshine Albright, MA, Nicole Dunmire, RN, Clinical Coordinator, and Meghan Butler, RN, Staff Nurse, were able to re-stock the closet thanks to this amazing donation.

This funding will help us provide essential personal care items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, and other basic hygiene products to patients who may be struggling to afford them. Access to hygiene products is about more than cleanliness—it supports health, dignity, confidence, and overall well-being. Thanks to the Junior League of Hampton Roads support, we can continue helping our neighbors meet these basic needs while focusing on their health and recovery! The Abingdon Ruritan Club, Bena VA continues to make GMCC a part of its community philanthropy! Dr. Chuck Harris, GMCC's volunteer dental director, is also a Ruritan. On behalf of the Club, Dr. Harris presented a gift of $4,000 to Arlene Armentor, GMCC's executive director. Joining in for the presentation were Kalie Schultz, dental assistant/coordinator, and Phyllis Harris, volunteer dental receptionist. Gifts like this have enabled GMCC to expand our dental services to those with Medicaid. GMCC appreciates the Abingdon Ruritan Club, Bena VA for their ongoing support!
