MAYBE YOU'RE NOT ANGRY. MAYBE YOU'RE JUST STRESSED.

Feeling irritated, impatient, or overwhelmed doesn't always mean you're an angry person.

Sometimes you're carrying more than you realize.

You may be tired from repeating the same things over and over.
You may be overwhelmed by constant decisions.
You may be frustrated because you feel like you're doing everything alone.
You may be grieving changes you never expected to face.

When you're under stress for a long time, even small things can feel like too much.

So before you judge yourself for losing your patience, take a moment to ask:

“Am I really angry, or am I exhausted?”

Sometimes your frustration isn't a sign that you're failing as a caregiver.

Sometimes it's a sign that you need a moment to breathe, rest, and take care of yourself, too.

Be gentle with yourself. Caregiving is a lot to carry.

💊 One of the biggest mistakes families make, myself included, is assuming their loved one is taking medications correctly.

My mom forgot to take her medications many times. Twice, I caught her trying to "catch up" by taking two days' worth of pills at once because she didn't want anyone to know she had missed a dose. Thankfully, they were only supplements.

That moment taught me something I'll never forget.

This wasn't stubbornness or dishonesty.

It was dementia.

Many people living with dementia know they're forgetting things and may try to hide it to protect their pride and independence.

If your loved one has dementia, don't rely on simply asking, "Did you take your pills?" As the disease progresses, medication management often needs more support.

Consider using:
💜 A pill organizer or automatic dispenser
💜 Medication reminders or alarms
💜 A daily medication checklist
💜 Hands-on help managing medications when needed

Medication management isn't a one-time task. It's an ongoing part of dementia care that often changes over time.

🚗 When Is It Time to Stop Driving?

One of the hardest decisions a caregiver may face is knowing when it's time for a loved one to stop driving.

Many people assume it's about getting older—but dementia affects much more than memory.

It can also affect:
• Judgment and decision-making
• Reaction time
• Attention and concentration
• Spatial awareness
• The ability to respond to unexpected situations on the road

Because these changes often happen gradually, your loved one may not recognize that their driving has become unsafe.

Some warning signs may include:
• Getting lost on familiar routes
• Missing stop signs or traffic signals
• New dents or scrapes on the car
• Confusion at intersections
• Close calls or delayed reactions while driving

If you've started noticing these changes, don't ignore them.

This conversation is never easy, but approaching it with empathy rather than criticism can make a difference.

Instead of saying,
"You can't drive anymore."

Try saying,
"I'm worried about your safety and the safety of others."

Sometimes the most loving decision is also the most difficult one.

Research suggests that spending time with pets may help reduce stress, ease feelings of loneliness, and provide comfort during challenging times. For many caregivers, a pet becomes more than a companion—they become a quiet source of comfort during difficult days.

They don't need the perfect words.

Sometimes they simply stay close.

They remind you to pause.

To breathe.

To smile.

For many families living with dementia, pets can also bring moments of calm, routine, and connection. While every person's experience is different, those moments of companionship can mean so much.

Many caregivers carry a heavy burden when they begin considering a care community.

They worry they're giving up.
They wonder if they're breaking a promise.
They question whether they're doing the right thing.

But choosing additional support doesn't mean you stop being a son, daughter, spouse, or friend.

It means your role begins to change.

Instead of:
- Spending every visit managing medications
- Helping with personal care
- Peventing falls
- Worrying about the next task

You can spend more time:
- Holding a hand
- Sharing stories
- Listening to favorite music
- Looking through family photos
- Simply being present

Your loved one still needs your love, your comfort, and your presence—things no care community can replace.

A new address doesn't change your relationship. It simply changes how you care for the person you love. ❤️

Caregiving can sometimes sound like this...

"I don't want to bother anyone."

"I don't have anyone to ask."

"They're already dealing with their own lives."

"I'll just do it myself."

"I can handle it."

If you've ever caught yourself thinking these things, you're not alone.

The truth is, asking for help isn't a sign of weakness.

It's a reminder that caregivers need care, too.

Whether it's reaching out to a family member, a friend, a neighbor, connecting with local resources, or simply talking to another caregiver...

You don't have to carry everything on your own.

Taking a break doesn't mean you love your person any less.

Accepting support doesn't mean you've failed.

It means you're giving yourself the strength to keep showing up, one day at a time.

You deserve support, too. 🤍

When was the last time you looked in the mirror...
not to check if you looked tired...
or if you had a moment to brush your hair...
or to remind yourself of everything that still needs to be done...

But to really see you?

The person who had favorite hobbies.
Dreams.
Friends.
A sense of humor.
Little routines that had nothing to do with medications, appointments, or caregiving.

Sometimes caregiving becomes so much a part of life that it's easy to forget there is still a whole person behind it.

The caregiver is real.
But so is the reader.
The gardener.
The artist.
The traveler.
The friend.
The spouse.
The parent.
The dreamer.

That version of you hasn't disappeared.
It may just be waiting for a little space to breathe again.

So today...when you pass a mirror,
don't just look for the caregiver.
LOOK FOR YOU.
