Day 6

This little bird is SO much fun!

He had a lot to say to Anya today. He clearly loves her the most & seems to really love to enter into dialogue with her.

I’ve heard they’re loud, screechy birds but so far all of his noises have been pretty adorable actually. Nothing as awful as our Macaw’s screams were for sure.

Day 5 with Zios... & he found his voice 🦜

Today he was chatting up a storm but of course, I missed the most animated part (isn't that always how it goes? πŸ™„πŸ˜‚). I did manage to catch a little bit on video though.

We *think* we hear him say "hello," and who knows what else. Whatever he's saying, it sure is cute! And we’re so happy he's becoming more comfortable & more confident.

Watching his personality come out is so much fun. Every day he has surprised us with something new.

Day 4

Look who’s getting more & more curious about us… πŸ‘€

We had to move his cage next to the couch because when Anya was watching TV earlier, that put her around the corner from where he was & he was having none of it!

He seems very content here by the couch where he has a view of everything in the great room.

08/02/2026

This was from yesterday but I forgot to post here:

48 hours with us & we have moved Zios into the main living area...
I'll start with letting you all know again that his new, larger cage is on order as well as some natural perches & more toys. We live remotely & this is what he came to us with when we adopted him so we're making do until our shipment gets here.

I am happy to report that he's doing so good! It's clear that Anya is his person. He is so much more animated & chattery when she s around.

He also eats, plays, preens, naps with one leg up & comes out of his cage, all with us around, so 1 think he's doing amazing for a 3 year old, unhandled bird with the reputation of being aggressive πŸ’™

He has had no problem switching from seed & fruit, to pellets & veggies. He still loves apples as a treat though 🍎

I know it's controversial but we did clip his wings as he's completely unhandled & as you can see in this video, we have a huge living space with floor to ceiling windows & his safety is most important.

We will let his feathers grow back in & work to flight train him once we've developed some trust &
boundaries. If he stays wild, he will likely stay clipped. It's too dangerous here otherwise but I will continue to learn & grow & adjust accordingly.

This week is him just getting used to living in our home & next week we will start teaching him to take a treat from us & once he's doing that, we will start target training him.

l am super hopeful we will have a happy, healthy, social, maybe even affectionate bird someday πŸ©΅πŸ’™πŸ©΅πŸ’™πŸ©΅

GalΓ‘zios β€œZios” has been with us for 24 hours, and he’s doing great! πŸ’™πŸ¦œ

Don’t fret… his new, larger cage, toys, natural wood perches, and organic pellet food are all on order. Remember, he was adopted yesterday, we live remotely (about 3Β½ hours from the nearest large pet store), and for the moment we’re working with what he came with until everything arrives.

I did have an extra rope ladder that I’d originally bought for our chameleon enclosure but never used, so I added that to his current cage. I also rearranged some of his toys so they were easier for him to reach, and today he’s actually been playing with them ~ which he wasn’t doing yesterday.

I’ll take that as a win. 😊

Right now, we’ve set him up in an unused section of our master bathroom to give him a quiet place to settle in before introducing him to the busier parts of the house. But everyone keeps hanging out in the bathroom with him anyway πŸ™ƒ which he doesn’t seem to mind one bit.

We’ll probably move him into the main living area in the next day or two (you know me & my plant addiction so I’ve been researching which plants are safe for him so I can create a jungle experience for him) but for now his temporary location has somehow convinced me that I absolutely must clean out my master closet, since I need to be nearby… so, I’m just going to leave him right where he is and ride this burst of motivation while it lasts πŸ˜‚

So far he’s eating well, drinking well, pooping normally, and making the sweetest little chattering noises throughout the day.

Last night he let out a few loud squawks, and I’m pretty sure he was simply informing us that it was bedtime 😴

During the day we’ve been playing music for him, and he definitely seems to have opinions already. His favorite genre so far appears to be male vocal Americana, folk, and country with a good, heavy bass line 🎢

One thing we’ve all noticed is that he seems especially interested in Anya. We could be imagining it, but he appears to watch her more closely than anyone else. When she tilts her head, he’ll often tilt his. If she shifts from where she’s been sitting beside his cage, he’ll lean over to peek around and see where she went. Whether it’s curiosity or the beginning of a friendship, it’s been incredibly sweet to watch.

We know trust takes time, and we’re in no rush. We’re simply going to meet him where he’s at and celebrate each little milestone along the way.

Meet the newest member of our family 🦜

πŸ’™GalΓ‘ziosπŸ’™

His name (pronounced gah-LAH-zee-ohs) comes from the Greek word for β€˜sky blue’ & he will likely end up going by the nickname Zios.

GalΓ‘zios is an Indian Ringneck, estimated to be 2–3 years old. His story is just beginning with us & we're honored to be part of his next chapter.

He's never really been handled & comes with the reputation of being aggressive. This means every interaction, every step closer & every bit of trust we build together will be completely new for him. We aren't bringing home a "tame" bird, we're beginning a brand new relationship, one to be built on patience, consistency & mutual trust.

If you remember, we did this once before with Ollie, Ollie, Ollie-bird, our military macaw that also came to us very unfriendly. We had to use welding gloves for a long time with that guy but eventually he became an integral part of the family & went everywhere with us. We miss that bird.

And I have a feeling, like Ollie, this little guy has an incredible personality hidden beneath those beautiful blue feathers & I can't wait to watch it come out.

So here's to new beginnings, tiny victories & celebrating every milestone along the way.

Welcome home GalΓ‘zios!

We love you more than you love us… for now πŸ’™

P.S. we know his cage is too small. But this is what he came to us with & we will be getting a new cage, toys, food & all that good stuff as soon as possible.

Welcome to 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒐𝒛𝒐 𝑴𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒅

This is Week 1 ~ Day 2 of my 52-week educational series, β€œπ‘Ύπ’‰π’‚π’• 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 π‘¬π’”π’•π’‰π’†π’•π’Šπ’„π’Šπ’‚π’ π‘Ύπ’Šπ’”π’‰π’†π’” 𝒀𝒐𝒖 π‘²π’π’†π’˜.”

A couple days ago, we talked about what an esthetician is.

Today, let’s answer another important question…

π‘Ύπ’‰π’š π’Šπ’” π‘¬π’”π’•π’‰π’†π’•π’Šπ’„π’” 𝒂 π’π’Šπ’„π’†π’π’”π’†π’… π’‘π’“π’π’‡π’†π’”π’”π’Šπ’π’?

If esthetics were simply about applying products or performing relaxing facials, licensure wouldn’t be necessary.

But professional esthetics is about much more than that.

Your skin is a living, functioning organ. Every treatment we perform has the potential to improve the health of the skin ~ or, if performed improperly, cause irritation, infection, pigmentation changes, scarring, or other complications.

That’s why state licensure exists.

Professional estheticians receive formal education in:

β€’ Skin anatomy & physiology

β€’ Ingredient science

β€’ Skin conditions

β€’ Sanitation & infection control

β€’ Treatment protocols

β€’ Contraindications

β€’ Safe treatment practices

β€’ Personalized treatment planning

…and so much more.

Licensure isn’t about creating barriers.

It’s about establishing professional standards that help protect the public and ensure treatments are guided by education, safety, and clinical judgment ~ not guesswork.

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying skincare or sharing products you love.

But there is an important difference between personal experience and professional education.

One is based on opinion.

The other is built on science, training, and accountability.

Over the next 52 weeks, we’ll separate facts from myths, explore the science behind healthy skin, and help you make informed, confident decisions about your skincare.

Question of the Day

𝑩𝒆𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒆 π’•π’π’…π’‚π’š, 𝒉𝒂𝒅 π’šπ’π’– 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 π’•π’‰π’Šπ’π’Œ 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 π’˜π’‰π’š π’†π’”π’•π’‰π’†π’•π’Šπ’„π’” π’Šπ’” 𝒂 π’π’Šπ’„π’†π’π’”π’†π’… π’‘π’“π’π’‡π’†π’”π’”π’Šπ’π’?

Or…

𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕’𝒔 𝒐𝒏𝒆 π’”π’Œπ’Šπ’π’„π’‚π’“π’† π’•π’π’‘π’Šπ’„ π’šπ’π’–β€™π’—π’† π’‚π’π’˜π’‚π’šπ’” π’˜π’‚π’π’•π’†π’… 𝒕𝒐 𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓?

Leave your answer in the comments. Your question may become a future lesson in 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒐𝒛𝒐 𝑴𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒅.

After all, the best education begins with real questions from real people.

Because your skin deserves better than guesswork.
