Amy and I got up before the sun crested over the coastal mountains in search of a Rogue Spring Chinook. Not a breath of wind as we waited for enough light to safely navigate our path upstream as all the creatures were greeting the warmth of the morning sun. We staked our spot on the fishing grounds as our anchor dug into the aggregate holding us taught like fiddle string. A bald eagle was just taking flight from its nest in search for its morning quarry. I slid out a spinner on the outside and a naked bait on the inside. Just the sounds of geese gathering their young and the songbirds serenading us as the river rippled under our feet. Then at about 6:30, the inside rod buried to the water!! Amy is no stranger to fighting these fish so it wasn’t long she had it nose first and coasted it right into the Beckman! We got back to our anchor and then my rod went off. Yep!! I got to finally fight a fish and now I know I have definitely been missing out on all the fun. Two nice kings in the ceremonial fish bag before 7:00! It wasn’t until just before the tour boats showed Amy was tagged out with the biggest one of the day!! I had a chance to tag out but I’m not nearly as skilled as my wife is so I farmed that one out!🤷 The day was perfect and and we put some fish in the boat, so our day was complete. It’s not often I get to fish with my wife and I cherish her time she spends with me!! Not to mention she always shows me up!! We are gonna continue to hunt these things until the run has concluded. So if you are interested in going, I would love to be of service to you!
