We are saddened to hear Asante is closing both outpatient facilities, which will impact pediatrics and adults for speech therapy.
We currently have in person and virtual services available, with all evaluations being completed via teletherapy.

We are adding additional in person staff in September and October and hoping to hire a pediatric Occupational Therapist to bring back this department.
Rogue Pediatric Therapies was started to fill the hole pediatric clients faced in our community. We are looking at options to now pick up the hole Asante is leaving in new populations.
We are looking at the possibility of adding adult speech therapy services since there are no other adult speech therapy services in our area available outside of Providence hospital outpatient.

We would love to hear from any SLP wanting to see adult patients and any OT/PT looking for pediatric positions. We have a large number of babies with plagiocephaly and torticollis and would love to have PT in house.

We are excited to announce 2 new SLPs joining our team in late August/early September adding both in-person and virtual sessions as well as Bilingual Spanish evaluation and teletherapy services for speech, language, AAC, and pediatric feeding.

Pacifier can be a great option for suck training and for calming in the moment. I always recommend a gradual slope vs. the 'orthodontic', wide neck, or 'like breast' advertised pacifiers.

Pacifiers...as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, of course, I need to be careful when talking about them. However, people use them, and there are pros and cons to their use. There are also some that many of us deem "better" than others...but we are thinking about (and observing) oral function as babies use them.

How does one choose a pacifier? "Should" a baby use one?

Those are loaded questions, and those decisions are made based on many factors.

Quick answers
~ ideally no pacifier
~ if used, ideally baby's lips are flared out and tongue is engaged to suckle and keep pacifier in mouth, like the ones in the top row of this NEW graphic would have baby do
~ if used, ideally for a few minute here and there
~ if used, baby is growing well
~ ideally baby would stop using by 6 months old or even sooner

This is what you should see when baby uses a pacifier. We held with suck training if your baby is chewing/clamping at breast and bottle. This can be the reason why baby is falling asleep during feeds, gaining weight slowly, 'playing with the bottle and much more.
