October is Menopause Awareness Month, and we are not whispering.

Perimenopause and menopause touch sleep, mood, metabolism, bones, brain, and most women get a shrug and a "that's normal" on their way out of a seven-minute appointment.

All October at KORE: what is actually happening hormonally, what is testable, what is treatable, and how to advocate for yourself in any exam room, including ours.

Bring your questions. Bring your mother's questions. We are answering all of them.

One of the best blood sugar tools isn’t in your kitchen.

It’s your legs.

Your muscles use glucose for energy. That means moving after a meal can help your body use some of the glucose that has just entered your bloodstream. And it doesn’t need to be a workout.

Try the 10-minute rule:
After your biggest meal today, walk for 10 minutes.
Walk the dog
Walk around the office
Walk around the block
Walk while you make a phone call
Take the stairs

Even a little movement counts.

Take-home:
Eat → Move → Get back to your day.

One of the easiest ways to upgrade a meal? Add fiber. 🌾

Fiber helps slow digestion, supports gut health, and can help create a more gradual rise in blood sugar after eating. Instead of obsessing over removing carbohydrates, ask:
“Where can I add more fiber?”

Easy options:

Berries 🫐
Beans 🫘
Lentils 🥣
Chia seeds 🌱
Flaxseed 🌾
Avocado 🥑
Vegetables 🥦
Nuts and seeds 🌰
Whole grains 🍞

Try this:
Add one extra fiber-rich food to each meal today.

Examples:
Eggs → add spinach and avocado 🍳🥬🥑
Greek yogurt → add berries and chia 🥣🫐
Chicken → add roasted vegetables 🍗🥕
Rice bowl → add beans, peppers, and greens 🍚🫘🫑

Take-home:
Don’t only ask, “How many carbs are in this?”
Also ask, “Where is my fiber?”

Don’t Let Your Carbs Go “Naked”

Eating an apple? Give it a friend. 🍏🤝

Carbohydrates don’t need to be the enemy. One simple way to support a steadier blood sugar response is to pair your carbohydrates with protein, fiber, or healthy fat.

Instead of:
🍎 Apple alone
Try: Apple + peanut butter 🥜

🍌 Banana alone
Try: Banana + Greek yogurt 🥣

🍞 Toast alone
Try: Toast + eggs or avocado 🍳🥑

🍘 Crackers alone
Try: Crackers + hummus or cheese 🧀

🥣 Oatmeal alone
Try: Oatmeal + nuts, seeds, and protein 🌰

Protein, fiber, and healthy fats help slow digestion and make meals more satisfying.

Take-home:
Keep the carb. Upgrade the company it keeps.

Doctor's orders for Labor Day: labor less.

Today is the one holiday literally named after not doing this. So: take the day. Happy Labor Day!

Not "answer emails from the grill." Not "just one quick call." Your stress physiology does not know the difference between a small work task and a big one.

One full day with your nervous system off duty does more than you think. Consider this your permission slip, signed by an actual doctor.

Want an easy way to support better blood sugar? Start with your plate.

Start with protein. Choose a portion about the size of the palm of your hand.

Easy options:
Chicken or turkey
Fish
Eggs
Greek yogurt or cottage cheese
Tofu or tempeh
Lean beef

Then fill the rest of your plate with color.

Colorful plants give you fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and naturally occurring carbohydrates and sugars.

Think:
Broccoli
Bell peppers
Spinach, kale, or mixed greens
Tomatoes
Carrots
Cucumber
Brussels sprouts
Eggplant
Zucchini
Purple cabbage
Blueberries
Strawberries
Raspberries
Blackberries

Keep it simple:
1. Pick your protein: Aim for about one palm-sized portion.

2. Add 2–3 colors: The more variety, the better.

3. Add fruit if you want something sweet: Berries are an easy way to add fiber, nutrients, and natural sweetness.

4. Rotate your colors: Different plants provide different nutrients, so variety matters.
Take-home:

Start with protein, add plenty of color, and you’ve already built a meal that better supports blood sugar and metabolic health.
