Updated Top Ten List of Pet Poisons Just Released
Dogs
In addition to acetaminophen making its way on the 2025 Top 10 Pet Poisons canine list, other changes include some items shifting up and down the list. The list is as follows:

Chocolate
Grapes/raisins
Bromethalin
Xylitol
5. Onions/chives/leeks/shallots (Allium species)

6. Ibuprofen

Carprofen became the first veterinary-specific medication to appear on Pet Poison Helpline’s Top 10 list in 2022,7 following cases of accidental ingestion or overdoses in pets for whom it was not prescribed.1

7. Vitamin D3 (overdose)

8. Ma*****na (THC)

9. Anticoagulant rodenticides

10. Acetaminophen

"The biggest shift was onion exposures, which shot from number 10 in 2024 to number [5] this past year," Schmid said.1 "Acetaminophen also made the list at number 10, and carprofen fell off the list."

DANBURY, CT — The city's animal control department has said a recent coyote attack on a dog should serve as a warning to dog owners, citing the ongoing coyote mating season.

"A recent incident involving a medium-sized lab mix being attacked by two coyotes when let out before bed highlights the importance of pet safety," wrote Danbury Animal Control.

Officials said the dog survived the attack, and Danbury Animal Control is urging folks to keep pet vaccinations current and never leave them unattended outside.

Danbury AC said mating season for coyotes is January to about mid-March, with pups born in April to mid-May.

As a result, Danbury AC released some tips courtesy of CT Dog Gone Recovery, a grassroots organization dedicated to helping pet lovers find their lost dogs. They include:• Don't leave pets outside unattended.

• Don't tie them outside on a lead, especially at night.

• Use non-slip collars and/or harnesses when walking your dog.

• Take your dog out on a leash and have a whistle, stick or other "hazing tools" to scare away any predators.

Hi all,

Due to the incoming winter storm and the potential for hazardous road conditions, we anticipate a delayed start to our day on Monday, January 26. At this time, we plan to open at 1:00 PM.

The safety of our staff and pet owners is our top priority. We will continue to keep you informed should there be any additional delays or closure updates.

Leadership will be on-site throughout the duration of the storm; however, availability to the public may be limited as we focus on the care and needs of our patients boarding in the hospital.
