We are so grateful that our Critical Home Repair program is supported by the Community Foundation for a greater Richmond! A true investment in the housing service for Goochland families in need of home repairs, thank you!
The Community Foundation is excited to announce the completion of our 2026 Community Impact grantmaking cycle. This milestone marks the official launch of our updated grants strategy, focused on advancing Economic Mobility for individuals and families across our region.
This year, $4.65M in grantmaking strengthens 130 organizations helping individuals and families move toward financial stability – by working to change the policies, practices, and barriers that prevent many people from accessing the opportunity to get ahead, coordinating support across our region, and providing consistent access to services that make long-term economic progress possible.
This strategic focus responds to an urgent regional challenge: 188,785 households, 40% of all households combined, are ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed); they earn more than the federal poverty level, but not enough to reliably cover basic needs. Supporting these families, along with households living in poverty, is the primary focus of our economic mobility investments.
Under this new grantmaking approach, many partners are receiving larger, multi-year investments – some to sustain and stabilize the services they already provide, and others to strengthen their work and expand what’s working. This cycle represents the first major milestone in our long-term commitment to leveraging the full strength of the Foundation toward creating sustainable, lasting progress where it is needed most.
The Community Impact Grants program is made possible through more than 100 donor-established endowments, as well as ongoing contributions from individuals and families who entrust the Foundation to direct those dollars where they can have the greatest impact. By combining these resources, we’re able to respond to pressing community needs while investing in long-term strategies that promote upward economic mobility.
