Myth #4: “You shouldn’t get a massage if you’re sore.”

Truth: In many cases, massage can actually help reduce soreness and improve recovery.

Appropriate techniques may help increase circulation, decrease muscle tension, and support recovery after workouts or physical stress. The key is using the right approach for what your body needs that day.

Myth #3: “More pressure always means a better massage.”

Truth: More pressure is not always more effective.

The right pressure depends on the person, the condition being treated, and how the body responds. Sometimes lighter, intentional work creates better results than aggressive pressure.

Therapeutic massage should feel productive — not punishing.

Myth #2: “Massage is just a luxury.”

Truth: Massage can be an important part of overall wellness and recovery.

Many people seek massage for:
• chronic tension
• headaches
• stress management
• injury recovery
• mobility issues
• nervous system regulation

Relaxation is valuable too. Rest is not a waste of time — it’s part of taking care of your body.

MASSAGE MYTH #1:
“Deep tissue massage has to hurt to work.”

One of the biggest misconceptions in massage therapy is that more pain equals better results. In reality, effective deep tissue work is about working with the body — not forcing it into guarding and tension.

Yes, some discomfort can happen when addressing tight or overworked muscles, but you should never feel like you have to grit your teeth through a session just to get relief.

Too much pressure can actually cause the muscles to tighten defensively, increase soreness, and sometimes even contribute to tissue irritation or bruising.

A skilled therapist focuses on:
• proper technique
• communication
• working layer by layer
• helping the nervous system relax so the body can respond

The goal isn’t to “win” the massage. The goal is lasting relief and improved function. 🤍

At 208 Massage & Healing, every session is tailored to your body and comfort level — because therapeutic work does not have to feel traumatic to be effective.

✨ New here? Let’s talk lymphatic massage ✨

If you’ve found my page recently—welcome 🤍

Lymphatic massage is a very gentle, targeted technique that helps your body move excess fluid and metabolic waste.
It can help with swelling, puffiness, and recovery—but it’s not deep tissue, and it’s not a one-and-done fix.

Results are temporary, which is why consistency matters.

If you like to research, here is a solid medical resource:

If you’re curious if it’s a good fit for you, feel free to message me or check out my schedule 🤍

Lymphatic drainage massage moves waste toward your lymph nodes to rid your body of toxins and reduce fluid retention. Learn more.
