Congratulations to Oaklawn CEO Laurie Nafziger on receiving the Heritage Award from South Bend Heritage Foundation! 🎉

Presented today by SBH Executive Director Marco Mariani, the award recognizes Laurie’s leadership and Oaklawn’s longstanding partnership with SBH to expand housing for people experiencing homelessness.

Since 2014, the partnership has produced more than 130 units, with SBH developing, building and maintaining the housing and Oaklawn providing ongoing supportive mental health and substance use treatment services.

As Laurie put it: “Together, we change lives.” ❤️

🎤 Got talent? We want to see it! 🎤

Oaklawn’s Got Talent is back, and applications are officially open!

Do you sing, dance, play an instrument, make people laugh, perform magic or have a talent that’s totally your own? This is your chance to take the stage, compete for a $5,000 grand prize and support an amazing cause: local mental health and addiction treatment.

✨ Performers of all ages and skill levels are welcome
🎭 Individuals and groups can apply
📍 You must live in Elkhart County or St. Joseph County (or have at least one group member who does)
📹 Submit an application and a video of your act

Applications are due by midnight Friday, October 16.

Selected performers will audition live at the The Lerner Theatre on November 1, with finalists taking the stage at Oaklawn’s Got Talent on May 21, 2027!

🚨 Attention, HIP members!

New work requirements for some members of Indiana Medicaid’s Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) will take effect in January 2027 - and the lookback period begins in October, just seven weeks from today.

Learn more in person at a town hall for HIP members, providers and community partners. The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA), in partnership with Covering Kids & Families of United Health Services will provide information about the upcoming HIP work requirements and answer questions.

🌟 We're celebrating 15 new ASIST-certified caregivers in our community! This week, Becky Zakowski (Executive Director, Oaklawn Foundation) and Ricky Mountsier (VP of Crisis Services) partnered with Mental Health Awareness of Michiana to lead Applied Su***de Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) — equipping 15 individuals with the knowledge and confidence to recognize the signs of su***de risk and respond with life-saving support.

Each person trained is one more person ready, willing, and able to help when someone is struggling. Together, we're building a su***de-safer community, one caregiver at a time.

Staring this Monday, July 13, we're expanding Open Access walk-in hours at our Goshen location:

🕗 Monday: 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
🕗 Tuesday: 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
🕛 Wednesday: Noon-6 p.m.
🕙 Thursday: 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
🕗 Friday: 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

No appointment is needed. Simply walk in during Open Access hours to start treatment, meet with a therapist and take the first step toward better mental health.

As we wrap up our look back at this year's Oaklawn's Got Talent, one thing is clear: what an incredible community we have.

From our talented finalists and generous sponsors to enthusiastic audience members and everyone who cast a vote or made a gift, this event was a true community effort. Together, we raised a record-breaking $243,000 to support Oaklawn's Crisis Services, helping ensure that people experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis can get the care they need, when they need it most.
