⚠️ During their regular meeting, the Grand County Colorado Board of County Commissioners approved enacting Stage Two Fire Restrictions, effective Friday, June 26, 2026 at 12:01 a.m.

The Grand County Sheriff's Office, in cooperation with local fire districts and federal partners, consistently monitors fire conditions and the necessity of fire restrictions. Decisions are based on a scientific fire restriction matrix utilized across northwest Colorado. Upon reviewing the latest data, Sheriff Brett Schroetlin recommended and Commissioners approved implementing Stage Two Fire Restrictions (Resolution No. 2026-06-16).

The Commissioners’ decision is the result of a collaborative effort between the Sheriff, local fire districts, the Bureau of Land Management’s Kremmling Field Office, the Sulphur Ranger District of the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests, and the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest. It is expected that our federal partners may implement stage two fire restrictions later this week after following their internal processes.

Under Grand County Stage Two Restrictions, all fires are prohibited on public and private lands, as well as at campgrounds in unincorporated Grand County. Each municipality (town) within Grand County has the ability to implement fire restrictions as determined by their local government.

Prohibited Activities & Uses
To protect lives, property, and natural resources, the following activities are strictly prohibited:

Open Fires: Building, maintaining, attending, or using any open fire—including charcoal grills and wood pits—at both public campgrounds and private residences. No outdoor fires unless it is gas and can be turned off (propane fire pits are permitted).

Personal Fireworks: The possession, sale, and use of all personal fireworks (including those normally considered "permissible" under state statute). Note: Only permitted, professional fireworks displays are allowed. It is the decision of the local jurisdiction to host a fireworks display.

Open-Flame Tools: Operating welding equipment, acetylene torches, or any other devices featuring an open flame.

Incendiary Devices: The use of explosives, exploding targets, tracer or exploding ammunition, and rockets.

Outdoor Smoking: Smoking outdoors is prohibited. Smoking is only permitted within an enclosed vehicle or building. Ci******es must be disposed of safely in proper receptacles; never discard them out of vehicle windows.

Uncertified Chainsaws: Operating a chainsaw without a USDA- or SAE-approved spark-arresting device properly installed and in effective working order.

Allowed Activities & Uses

The following activities remain permitted, provided they are conducted with extreme caution:

Gas & Liquid Fueled Appliances: heating devices, stoves, grills, lanterns, fire pits, fireplaces or fire tables that include shut-off valves are permitted when used in an area at least three or more feet from flammable materials such as grasses or pine needles.

Indoor Fireplaces: Fires completely contained within a fireplace, wood stove, or pellet stove inside a fully enclosed, permanent structure.

Professional Displays: Permissible fireworks according to state statute. The permitted, professional fireworks displays in Grand County are allowed.

Enforcement, Fines, and Reporting
Grand County officials urge voluntary compliance to help safeguard the community. However, fire restrictions will be strictly enforced.

Penalties: A violation of Grand County Fire Restrictions is punishable by a $1,000.00 fine for each separate offense.

To Report a Violation: Please contact the Grand County Communications Center at 970-725-3311. For your own safety, do not personally confront individuals violating the restrictions; allow Sheriff's Deputies to handle the situation.

Saturday Provider Spotlight: Alexi Perkins, PA-C

Alexi has been a Physician Assistant since 2013 and specializes in primary care for the entire family through every stage of life, including pregnancy, newborns, and children/adolescents, as well as adults. She is proud to practice evidence-based medicine and participate in medical education to stay up-to-date on the newest research and guidelines. Alexi splits her time between the Kremmling and Granby clinics, so call our main line 970.887.5800 to schedule your appointment.

Outside of work, Alexi enjoys taking classes at the MPH Wellness Center, baking, traveling, volunteering at her kids’ school, photography, dancing, and craft projects. She is also passionate about giving back to charitable organizations including those dedicated to brain tumor research, positively impacting the local community, or helping vulnerable individuals regain their independence.

🅿 Important Parking Announcement! 🅿

We will be sealcoating and re-striping the parking lots at our Fraser and Granby Campuses this upcoming week and next weekend. Parking will still be available at both locations, but please be mindful of marked section closures and fresh paint.

Fraser Campus: Half of the parking lot will be closed for sealcoating on Tuesday, June 23rd and the other half on Wednesday, June 24th. Re-striping will be on Monday, June 29th.
Granby Campus: Sealcoating will be completed on Sunday, June 28th and re-striping on Monday, June 29th.
Kremmling Campus: TBD (after July 4th weekend)

We're sharing this important PSA from the Grand County Sheriff's Office - Colorado, which is advising residents and visitors that Grand County has transitioned to a Very High Fire Danger Level, and Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in effect. Please read below.

🔥 The Grand County Sheriff's Office is advising residents and visitors that Grand County has transitioned to a Very High Fire Danger Level, and Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in effect. Due to dry forest conditions and predicted weather patterns, wildfire risk has been significantly elevated.

According to the U.S. Forest Service, a “Very High” danger level indicates the following:

Easy Ignition: Fires will start easily from most causes.

Rapid Spread: Fires spread quickly and increase in intensity immediately after ignition.

Extreme Behavior: Small fires can rapidly become large incidents, exhibiting extreme fire behavior such as long-distance spotting and fire whirls.

Control Challenges: These fires are highly difficult to control and often result in larger, longer-lasting suppression efforts.

Three Action Steps to Protect Our Community
Do not wait for an emergency to act. Please take these three proactive steps to ensure your safety and protect Grand County:

Our dedicated CNAs are integral to the success of the SCU and Cliffview Assisted Living. They are the eyes and ears on the front line, and often pick up on the subtle patient changes before other members of the care team.

The Grand County Sheriff's Office, in cooperation with local fire districts and federal partners, consistently monitors fire conditions and the necessity of fire restrictions. Decisions are based on a scientific fire restriction matrix utilized across northwest Colorado. Upon reviewing the latest data, Sheriff Brett Schroetlin recommended and Commissioners approved implementing Stage One Fire Restrictions (Resolution No. 2026-06-08).

The Commissioners’ decision is the result of a collaborative effort between the Sheriff, local fire districts, the Bureau of Land Management’s Kremmling Field Office, the Sulphur Ranger District of the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests, and the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest.

What Stage One Restrictions Mean
Under Stage One Restrictions, open fires in Grand County are prohibited outside of developed recreation sites, meaning dispersed campfires in forested areas are not permitted.

Please note that each municipality (town) within Grand County retains the authority to implement its own fire restrictions as determined by local government.

Enforcement: Our goal is voluntary compliance as we all do our part to prevent wildfires. Penalty: A violation of Grand County Fire Restrictions is punishable by a $1,000.00 fine for each separate offense.

Prohibited Activities & Uses
The following activities are strictly prohibited under Stage One Fire Restrictions:
• Open Fires: Building, maintaining, attending, or using an open fire outside of a developed recreation site.
• Smoking: Smoking outdoors, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed campground or picnic area, or while stopped in an area at least six feet in diameter that is barren of all combustible materials.
• Chainsaws: Operating a chainsaw without a USDA- or SAE-approved spark-arresting device properly installed and in working order.
• Welding/Torches: Welding or operating torches with an open flame, except in an area at least ten feet in diameter that is barren of all combustible materials.
• Incendiary Devices: Using explosive or incendiary devices (excluding permissible fireworks).

Allowed Activities & Uses
The following activities are permitted under Stage One Fire Restrictions:
• Developed Sites: Open fires in developed campgrounds (with fees and hosts) or picnic areas featuring permanently constructed fire grates and/or charcoal grills.
• Stoves/Grills: Fires contained within liquid- or gas-fueled stoves, lanterns, heating devices, and wood pellet grills/stoves.
• Private Residences: Open fires at private residences within permanent or portable outdoor fireplaces, fire pits, chimineas, and/or grills.
• Fireworks: Permissible fireworks according to state statute, as well as permitted, professional fireworks displays within Grand County.
