🚨BREAKING: A scientist in Japan demonstrated that the air inside a forest can strengthen your immune system for a full month.

Immunologist Qing Li of Nippon Medical School in Tokyo took 12 men on a three-day forest trip consisting of slow walks with no special breathing exercises or set routes.

Blood tests afterward showed a clear surge in natural killer cells — the immune cells that help the body fight viruses and cancerous cells.

The elevated levels were still measurable 30 days later.

A control group that walked the same distance through a city showed no change at all.

Pine, cedar, and cypress trees release airborne compounds called phytoncides as a natural defense. When people breathe them in, these compounds appear to activate immune cells.

Li’s research suggests that one forest walk a month may be enough to keep those cells elevated throughout the year.

Sometimes the best medicine does not require a prescription — just time among the trees.

Costco Organic Chicken Isn’t Organic: A new investigation reveals an "organic" and "certified humane" farm that raises birds for Pilgrim's Pride, a major supplier of Costco's certified organic chicken, severely neglecting and abusing animals.

During his roughly 2.5-month stint at the farm, the investigator documented unsanitary living conditions, along with severe neglect — like birds with twisted necks and open wounds — and disturbing cases of outright abuse, including the farm manager leaving birds to die slowly in deadpiles, and euthanizing birds by bludgeoning them with PVC pipes and rakes. In one instance, the farm manager crushed a bird with a bucket, and in another, slammed a chicken against a wall. "It was every day that the manager would be bludgeoning chickens to death or burying them alive," said the investigator.

Such cruelty has been found over and over and over again in the U.S. poultry industry, including numerous past investigations of farms that supply Pilgrim's Pride.

What's notable about this new investigation is that it exposes problems within two beloved, and supposedly more ethical, institutions in American life: Costco — with its higher employee wages and stated commitments to progressive causes — and organic farming, which has long been perceived as a more moral sector of the food industry.

The investigation also reveals the immense shortcomings of governmental oversight, corporate animal welfare guidelines, and third-party inspectors, because at each step of the supply chain — from the farm, to the chicken supplier, to the organic certifiers and American Humane Society auditors, and finally, to Costco and other corporate buyers — severe animal cruelty appeared to slip through the cracks. The investigation illustrates that organic and even basic welfare standards are only as good as their enforcement.

GMO Bananas Are Here. Unlabeled. Because, you know... they don't want you to know it's GMO. 👀 We reported on the UK-based biotech company, Tropic, back in 2014 and the company announced that two banana varieties are already in the market, sold in the U.S. and Canada. Since the USDA has deregulated the genetic engineering process of gene-editing and the products produced through gene-editing, these GMO bananas will require no safety testing at all and will not require a "bioengineered" label. Tropic won't even disclose where these GMO bananas are being grown. On top of that, because of the USDA deregulation, the company, or retailers, may even decide to trick you and advertise them as non-GMO. How screwed up is that? It's bananas.

The only way to avoid these GMO bananas will be to buy Certified Organic, Certified Biodynamic, or Non-GMO Project Verified. The Non-GMO Project prohibits gene-editing under its certification standards, so look for the butterfly.
