Allow me to re-introduce myself for anyone who doesn't know me 👋🏻

HEART: In whatever capacity I serve families, I lean into my intuition with a strong desire to nurture and help people, especially during vulnerable or important moments. I carry an empathetic nature into every space with the goal to meet your needs in a meaningful way. With over 12 years of experience, I offer tailored support to suit your individual circumstances, preferences, and goals. Hence, my business name. I feel connected to my maternal instincts and my heart is always attuned to the environment and your feelings and needs.

ABOUT ME: My name is Caty! My favorite color is navy blue. I'm also super short. My biggest supporter is my husband, who has been by my side since we were 14, and together we have three incredible kiddos. When we get a chance, we love to play board games, card games, complete escape rooms, swim, run, ski, rock climb, get together with family members, or snuggle up with popcorn or ice cream (or both) to watch an exciting movie or hilarious tv series. I’m part of a local roller derby team, try to complete regular mud runs or complete other challenges to remind myself that I can do hard things and be a part of something bigger, and that mindset carries into my services as I support YOU.

Is anyone else eagerly awaiting the next season of The Pitt?
I know that show opened people's eyes to a lot of realistic scenarios in a hospital setting and that sometimes hospitals can be scary. Labor and Delivery is often its own little world but I like to familiarize people a bit anyway so you're not as anxious as you might be otherwise. Enter: the IV pole! This is the pole on wheels that kinda looks like a coat rack in that it can hang different bags of fluids at the top, and there's electronic equipment showing what it is, the rate it's flowing at, etc.

This pic has Lactated Ringer's (LR) - an intravenous (IV) fluid used to replace water and electrolytes in patients experiencing dehydration, blood loss, or fluid depletion, and is composed of water, sodium chloride, sodium lactate, potassium chloride, and calcium chloride.

Whether you're hooked up to an IV or if you just have the saline lock/IV port, you'll see this in your room. What other equipment would you like to learn more about ahead of time, or that you wish you had known?

The oldest and youngest of six. The bookends. The ones that will grow up having so much in common and also having so much that is different. When I see this family, I often see these two together, but that might not always be the case - I would be honored to pause this moment in time for you through a little Home Sweet Home photo sesh. ❤👲👶❤

Fun fact Friday:
In recent years, medical literature has been buzzing with the critique that having 7 cardinal movements in labor is technically incorrect and that there are really only 4 cardinal movements in labor. These are:
1. Flexion of the fetal head
2. Internal rotation
3. Extension of the fetal head and
4. External rotation for the shoulders (in my image, you see the baby's head being born and externally rotating so that the shoulders can be born and baby will be expelled in the next push. This step is also commonly referred to as "restitution")

"hi, i'm new here"
I loved his little onesie and so did his parents so we held off on swaddling him up and just gave him a minute to chill on the baby bed for a more relaxed picture while we set up the next photo station in the living room of their house : )

S l o w i n g D o w n
🕯 One of the things that my homebirth clients often appreciate is the opportunity to slow things down and really be present in the moment. For example, rather than the sense of urgency and hustle and bustle that can come with cord clamping and cutting in a hospital setting, some parents opt for cord burning instead. Waiting for the cord to stop pulsing, waiting for the placenta to be delivered, and then waiting the 10-15 minutes for the beeswax or other candles to cauterize and burn through the cord allows for a more intentional transition. 🕯
