There are several disorders in the auditory system that may or may not be associated with hearing loss. Two of the more interesting include phonophobia (an extremely fearful reaction to a particular sound) and misophonia (an extreme dislike of a certain sound).

These conditions may or may not be associated with abnormalities in the ears. Most people experiencing these difficulties can be helped. If you or someone you know is experiencing abnormal perception of sounds or voices, please contact the professionals at Fire Audiology and Hearing Center at (701) 787-5862.

Did you know that the term binaural means “two ears”?

These are several of the advantages that we have by hearing with two ears. Our brains make decisions based upon time of arrival, phase of sound, and intensity of sound in both ears to take advantage of these binaural benefits. Unfortunately, hearing loss can diminish these benefits.

If you’ve struggled with your environmental perception of hearing or understanding with background noise, reach out to the experts at Fire Audiology and Hearing Center at (701) 787-5862 to schedule a hearing test and review your options.

Summer noise and stress can make tinnitus feel louder. Sound devices or apps that feature white noise or nature sounds can help mask ringing, especially in quieter rooms. You can also pair this with breathing or relaxation exercises to calm your nervous system.

Our hearing experts can also help you build a personalized management plan so that tinnitus doesn’t interfere with your summer plans.
