✨ What’s the difference between a Doula and a Midwife? ✨

I get asked this question all the time — and the truth is, doulas and midwives often work beautifully together to support growing families. 💛

A Midwife is a trained medical professional who provides clinical care during pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum. They monitor the health of both parent and baby, perform medical assessments, deliver babies, and provide medical guidance throughout the journey.

A Doula provides emotional, physical, and informational support. We don’t perform medical tasks or deliver babies — instead, we focus on helping you feel empowered, informed, comforted, and supported every step of the way. From breathing techniques and labor positioning to encouragement and advocacy, we’re there for you.

Think of it this way:

👩‍⚕️ Midwife = medical care

🤱 Doula = continuous support and comfort care

Both play valuable roles in creating a positive birth experience. ✨

Four years ago, New Beginnings Doula Services served its very first client ❤️

New Beginnings Doula Services was founded with a simple but powerful mission: to support, educate, and empower families throughout their birth and postpartum journeys here in West Michigan. 💛

Today, I am beyond grateful to celebrate 4 incredible years of serving this beautiful community. From first contractions to first cuddles, from tears to triumphs—I’ve had the honor of walking alongside so many strong, amazing families during some of life’s most transformative moments.

To every client who trusted me, every baby I’ve welcomed, and every family I’ve supported—thank you. You are the heart of everything I do. 💕
