It’s raining today, so naturally I wanted to break my fast with something warm, something that feels nourishing… AND support hormonal balance with seed cycling. My body has been responding well to this medicine.
If you don’t know about seed cycling, basically you just incorporate 4 different seeds over the course of your cycle to support hormonal balance. It’s rather easy and I feel like it makes a difference for me so I will continue experimenting with it.
You will split the cycle into only 2 phases and consume 1 tablespoon of 2 types of seeds every day during the phase. Easy, right? There are a million recipes out there for creative ways to incorporate them into the diet… but like most kitchen things, I tend to just wing it.
Here’s the simple how to:
Phase 1 - days 1-14 (or until you ovulate) - flax and pumpkin - consume 1-2 Tablespoons daily
Phase 2 - days 15-28 (or until menstruation) - sesame and sunflower - consume 1-2 Tablespoons daily
So what am I eating this morning? I was craving a hot cereal so I blended up some buckwheat groats roughly and mixed in a bit of whole ones for texture variation. Added in lots of fun stuff including chia seeds (great source of iron/magnesium),ground flax/sprouted pumpkin (benefits digestion, brain, etc), cacao powder (heart health, nervous system support, more minerals), a splash of oat milk, cinnamon (this is great for hormones too and supports insulin resistance!), banana, a bit of raw honey and flaky grey Celtic salt. Lots of great minerals in both the honey and salt! YUM!!
