The dentists in our community are extraordinary! 🦷

On one of her few Fridays off, Dr. Sydney Cinal, DDS (Smile Grand Haven) generously volunteers at Love in Action of the Tri-Cities. In a single monthly shift, she serves 6–10 patients with exams, restorations, and life-changing dental care—bringing skills, compassion, and friendly mentorship to students along the way!

Did you know that navigating phone calls and in-person inquiries makes up a huge portion of our work at the Love in Action Free Health & Dental Center? 📞 💬

In the first six months of 2026, the LIA Free Health and Dental Center team averaged 165 medical and dental calls per month from new and returning patients. Depending on their needs, these individuals are either treated directly within the Health Center or referred to more appropriate area caregivers.

Navigating healthcare can be overwhelming, but skilled, compassionate staff members are here to help you or a loved one figure out next steps—whether you have no insurance, partial insurance, or Medicaid.

It is a privilege to train the next generation of medical professionals! 🩺 ✨

Meet Zach! He is a Neurosciences student and local ER pharmacy tech aspiring to become a physician. Zach is joining Love in Action as a volunteer medical assistant to get closer to patient care.

On his very first day, we caught a wonderful moment of his skill in action. While observing an intake call with Shelley, our Medical Clinic Manager, Zach immediately jumped in to ask the patient medication questions and log them into her record like a champ!

At LIA, Zach will grow his clinical skills while discovering the heart behind our care—and we know our team will learn just as much from him.

Meet Sehra, dental volunteer! ✨

Sehra is a dentist from Pakistan who recently moved to Michigan. While she works hard toward her Michigan dental license—a journey that requires additional schooling—she is graciously volunteering in the Muskegon and Grand Haven areas as she awaits this future.

The LIA Free Health and Dental Center team has been so incredibly blessed by her presence, her heart for service, and her skills as she serves as a dental assistant!

We have big news to celebrate. Through LIA connections, Sehra just accepted a position at Hackley Community Care Dental as a paid dental assistant. We are thrilled she can use her talents and gain U.S. clinical experience while continuing her dental journey!

Way to go after your dreams, Sehra! We are so proud of you, rooting for you, and honored to be a part of your journey! 🦷 🤍 👏

Men's Health Event Report 📋: Gratitude! ✨

We praise God for our first Men's Health Event! It was a day of high activity and moments of meaningful connection! Participants shared conversation, started paths of healing, and experienced empowerment for change. One man shared that the visit helped him "worry less," as he learned about health findings he can proactively manage. Another shared how the event inspired change (check out his story in the photo!).

The Immediate Impact:

✅ Cholesterol and A1c Checks informing health status
✅ Skin findings leading to needed Dermatology referrals

It's been a different week for dental center staff, as the Michigan Dental Association is in Grand Rapids for their annual Sparkling Smiles fundraiser and Session (conference). Hans, Dental Manager, is pictured here representing LIA at the exhibit hall of their annual session to connect with dental professionals and suppliers.

The MDA foundation has generously supported initiatives of LIA to increase patient care over the last few years and we are so grateful for them!

Meet Sheila, RN! 🩺 Beyond her skilled care, Sheila is a true connector. She recently suggested adding the LIA QR code flyers to our exam rooms so patients can easily scan for the resources they need. Every volunteer brings unique gifts to LIA, and Sheila’s proactive heart is such a blessing to staff and patients. Thank you, Sheila, for all you do!
