Thankful Thursday!
Meet Beth! She is a woman of many talents. She has worked at Medilodge for several years, having several roles such as housekeeping, laundry and kitchen. Now she is one of the friendly faces at the door! "It's such a joy to work with everyone, but especially my mother-in-law, Sheila." Beth is married to Paul, and they are blessed with four wonderful daughters, and three grandchildren. When she isn't working, you can find her spending time with her family, traveling, or relaxing on Lake Michigan. Beth is always ready to help and support others. "I truly believe that keeping a positive attitude can really make a difference in our lives, especially when things get tough." We are so lucky to have you Beth!

Thankful Thursday!
If you are ever at the Shore, you may know Karuna! She is our Social Work Director of over a year. Her favorite thing about her job is helping and engaging with the residents. If she could give any advice to those just starting or considering pursuing social work, she would say that "Sometimes it feels like you cannot do it, but once you get it, you will rock what you do!" She encourages everyone around her to keep going and never give up. A fun fact about Karuna is she loves spicy food! Not only that, but she enjoys sharing her love of spicy food with others and loves bringing them things to try. We are so grateful to have Karuna at the Shore!

Meet Katie! She is one of our social workers here at the Shore. Katie has acquired her certification as a Dementia Practitioner. She has been specially trained to connect and care for those living with dementia. In addition to caring for our residents, she is equipped to support families on their journeys alongside their loved ones. Katie can provide tip sheets on how to decorate their loved one’s room with personal touches, she can create a list of conversation prompters for the season or upcoming holiday for families to utilize and she can meet with families personally to identify how often they would like to be provided updates even if there is no change of a condition.

Did you know? Skilled nursing facilities and nursing homes are not quite the same.

Skilled nursing provides physician-directed medical care and rehabilitation after an illness, injury, or surgery. Nursing homes primarily provide ongoing help with daily living.

Skilled nursing stays are often short-term and recovery-focused (though can be ongoing to treat chronic conditions,) while nursing home care is usually long-term.

After more than a year in activities, she will soon be starting CNA classes as she works toward becoming a certified caregiver. Summer is Here! Staying hydrated and avoiding heat exhaustion is especially important for older adults. Encourage your loved ones to drink water regularly and stay cool during warmer days. We have a drink station set up for our residents to stay hydrated!!
