🌴🇨🇴 Lunch Bunch Takes a Detour to Colombia! 🇨🇴🌴

Today our Solstice Senior Living at Grand Valley Lunch Bunch headed out for lunch at the International Buffet… but somehow we ended up in Colombia! 😎🍹

As part of our Passport Around the World adventure, Colombia is our featured destination this month. Between the incredible food, refreshing tropical drinks, lots of laughter, and a few new Colombian “friends” we may have picked up along the way, our residents fully embraced the experience!

From vibrant flavors to colorful culture, Colombia has certainly stolen our hearts. ❤️💛💙

We’re not saying anyone actually got on a plane… but the photos might tell a different story! ✈️😂

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for another memorable Lunch Bunch adventure. We can’t wait to see where our passports take us next!

☀️📚🖍️ HELP US FILL THE SUMMER FUN BOX! 🧃🍎🫧

At Grand Valley, our residents are always looking for ways to give back to the community they love.

Throughout the month of July, we will be collecting items to help support local children and families. Our goal is simple: bring a little extra joy, fun, and kindness to kids during the summer months.

We are collecting:
🖍️ Crayons
📚 Coloring Books
🎨 Markers & Colored Pencils
🌈 Sidewalk Chalk
🫧 Bubbles
🧃 Juice Boxes
🍎 Individually Packaged Snacks
☀️ Small Bottles of Sunscreen
🧸 Small Toys & Activity Items

At the end of July, our residents will help assemble and deliver the donations to local families in need.

One of the greatest gifts our residents have is their generous hearts, and we’re excited to partner with our community to make a difference for local children.

If you’d like to contribute, donations can be dropped off in our lobby throughout the month of July.

Together, we can help make summer a little brighter. 💛☀️

🍦☀️ Wednesday’s outing took us to one of Grand Junction’s favorite local spots — Graff Dairy!

Residents enjoyed an afternoon filled with delicious homemade ice cream, creamy milkshakes, famous Chicago dogs, and pretzels so big they practically covered the plate! And of course, the warm beer cheese was the perfect finishing touch. 🥨🌭🍨

The food was fantastic, but as always, the best part was spending time together, sharing laughs, enjoying great conversation, and supporting a wonderful local business. Outings like these are a great reminder that sometimes the sweetest memories are made over ice cream with good friends.

Thank you, Graff Dairy, for another wonderful visit. We will definitely be back! 💛

🌽🏆 The competition was fierce at Grand Valley’s Annual Corn Shucking Contest!

With 100 ears of corn ready to go and only 2 minutes on the clock, residents put their skills to the test in a race against time. There was plenty of laughter, cheering, and friendly competition as everyone gave it their best effort.

A huge congratulations goes to Jim Nelson, who claimed this year’s championship title by shucking an impressive 17 ears of corn in just 2 minutes! 🌽👏

From flying husks to lots of laughs, this annual tradition continues to be one of our favorite summertime events. It’s amazing how a simple activity can bring so much fun, conversation, and community together.

Congratulations, Jim, on your well-earned victory, and thank you to everyone who participated and made the event such a memorable one! 🌽💛

🇨🇴🌴 We continued our travels through Colombia today with a fun and insightful presentation on “Island Time and Living Free in Colombia.”

Residents learned about the relaxed coastal lifestyle, the importance of family and community, Colombia’s beautiful beaches, colorful cities, music, dancing, and the joy of slowing down and enjoying life’s simple moments.

One thing that made today’s presentation extra special was hearing firsthand stories and experiences from Lynna, who has had the opportunity to visit Colombia multiple times. Her love for the country, its people, culture, and way of life brought a personal touch to the presentation and helped residents see Colombia through a different lens. The warmth of the people, strong family values, vibrant culture, and appreciation for enjoying life are just a few of the reasons she enjoys returning there.

As a special takeaway, everyone received a Colombian shot-glass necklace, which was a huge hit! 🍹 Many residents were already talking about wearing them to tomorrow’s Colombian Happy Hour and showing off their new accessories.

One of the best parts of our Passport Program is seeing residents fully immerse themselves in each country we visit. Between the stories, laughter, discussions, and fun takeaways, Colombia is already shaping up to be an exciting month full of adventure, culture, and great memories. 🇨🇴

Yesterday’s “This Is Your Life” presentation featuring Leo Gwinn was nothing short of amazing. 💛

Leo shared stories of his incredible life journey, his distinguished career, his deep love for his country, his wonderful family, and memories of his beloved wife, who recently passed away. It was a touching and meaningful afternoon that allowed us to celebrate a truly remarkable man.

One of the highlights was seeing Leo’s incredible artwork. What makes his artistic journey even more special is how it began. After a fellow resident lost her companion who had lived here at Grand Valley, Leo created a drawing to help comfort her during a difficult time. That simple act of kindness touched so many hearts that before long, everyone seemed to want a drawing from Leo.

His talent is undeniable, but what stood out even more was the generosity, compassion, and heart behind every piece he creates.

Thank you, Leo, for sharing your story, your memories, and your beautiful artwork with all of us. It was an afternoon we won’t soon forget.
