Knowledge of surgery schedules/ blocks/facility contacts w/ phone & fax
Communicate with various OR staff/ ordering what’s needed for cases
Properly document and order tests in EHR.
Notifying Dr’s of next day schedules via Email/ Pagers/ Outlook & Google
Able to multi-task, prioritize duties
Knowledge of the different types of surgeries & Doc’s preference when scheduling.
Knowledge of how to set up pre-op scans/ tests needed for surgery.
Knowledge of how to handle add on/ emergency same day or next day cases
Basic understanding of call schedules, General, Trauma & VA, and who to send them to.
Knowledge of how to fill out surgery order forms, send H&P’s, consents and discharge summary for surgery, medical background and knowledge of anatomy. Knowledge of ICD-10 & CPT codes.
Ability to Pre-Authorize all surgery’s & radiology procedures and document it in the HER & be at least 2 weeks out from surgery.
How to handle subpoena’s/ legal issues requiring the Dr to testify.
Maintain time on station report.
Monthly surgery counts report.
VA clinic time on station and communicate with the VA.
Notify doc’s of outdated H&P’s for surgery.
