Love leaves an imprint and grief is the evidence of that. The depth of our grief is often a reflection of the depth of our love.

We grieve people, places, seasons of life, dreams, identities, relationships, and futures we once imagined…..because it mattered.

In a culture that often encourages us to move on, stay positive, or get over it, grief asks something different ….. it asks us to pause, to feel, to honor that which is precious.

Francis Weller writes that grief and love are companions. Beneath every grief is a love that lives on.

The more willing we are to make space for our grief, the more fully we can honor the love that gave rise to it. ♥️

What would it feel like to spend an entire day not taking care of everyone else?

A day to exhale.
A day to unplug from the constant doing.
A day to be held instead of holding it all together.

Join me in Grand Marais for a one-day retreat designed to help you slow down, reconnect with yourself, and fill your own cup alongside other like-hearted women.

Through rest, reflection, connection, and practices that support renewal, you’ll leave feeling more grounded, centered, and connected to what matters most.

You deserve moments that are just for you.

More details soon. Save the date, Tuesday September 22nd, 2026 ♥️

Let’s play a game called find the carrots…. Does anyone remember where we planted them?

Instagram is full of plenty of “pretty” gardens. Perfectly manicured pathways and plants neatly lined up in neat little rows. That’s not me, at least not this year and maybe never again.

I experience life in metaphors, and I have always loved a good gardening metaphor. Earlier this week when I entered the feral realm of my garden the metaphor was clear. The small degree of separation between my garden and me gave me the clarity to see the wisdom in this years unkept garden. I don’t go out there to harvest this season, I go out there to discover. To discover the tomatoes ripening amongst the zinnias, the beautiful cabbage amongst the patch of chickweed, the forest of mint that seems to have claimed sovereignty over its corner of the garden.

Plants grow in conditions where they have what they need to thrive. They were never meant to grow in neat little rows and honestly would you rather spend your time pulling weeds or talking to the bees? Here’s to rewilding our gardens, those of the inner and outer realms and tending to the wild beauty of it all in the way that feels best to each of us in the season of life we are in…. Not the the way we were told to by our families, environments, or culture that they should be.

May we trust that something beautiful can grow even when it doesn’t look the way we planned or expected it to be ♥️

Can we talk about how much attention today’s yoga classes place on the peak pose?

The handstand.
The arm balance.
The deep backbend.

While there can be value in challenging ourselves, I feel that some of the most important moments in a yoga practice happen when we slow down. Restorative poses invite us to soften & listen rather than achieve. They allow the body to fully relax and activate the parasympathetic nervous system—the part of our nervous system responsible for rest, digestion, healing, and repair. In a world that constantly asks us to do more, restorative postures offer a rare opportunity to simply be.

Some simple restorative poses include:

✨ Legs Up the Wall
✨ Child’s Pose
✨ Reclined Bound Angle Pose
✨ Reclined Twist
✨Happy Baby
✨ Savasana

My favorite restorative pose tends to change depending on what’s happening in my life and what my body is asking for. Right now, if I had to choose, it would be Legs Up the Wall. There is something so simple and nourishing about letting gravity do the work while the nervous system settles and the mind grows quiet. It aids in digestion, helps alleviate swelling in the legs in the feet, helps relieve low back pain and cramps, and more.

What’s your favorite restorative pose of the moment?

Well hello there, I am Brigette Binesikwe Nies.

For those of you who are new here, I thought it might be time to reintroduce myself.

I’m the hands and heart behind Ancient Traditions Healing. A lifelong student of healing, and a guide for those seeking a deeper connection with themselves, others, and the natural world. For over 30 years, I’ve been exploring the many pathways of healing through bodywork, herbalism, yoga, Reiki, breathwork, 1:1 Soul Wisdom sessions, women’s circles and wellness retreats. While the tools have evolved over the years, the intention remains the same: helping people return to their wholeness.

When I’m not working with clients, you’ll likely find me wandering in the woods, tending my garden, gathering plant medicine, playing by Lake Superior or traveling to Peru.

I believe healing happens in relationship.
I believe our sensitivity can be a gift.
I believe nature is one of our greatest teachers.
And I believe there is wisdom within each of us waiting to be remembered.

I’m so glad you’re here and would love to hear more about you and you journey to wholeness. ♥️

What I am reading this summer…..

As many of you know, I committed to not one, but two in-depth programs this year. Since February, I’ve been immersed in a deep exploration of depth psychology, trauma healing, parts work, reclaiming wholeness, sacred embodiment, shadow work, boundaries, sacred sensitivity, psychedelic healing, and more.

The stack of books in this photo represents only about a third of what I’ve read so far this year. Each one has offered a different lens into the human experience and a different pathway back to ourselves.

With only a few months left in these programs, I’m beginning to dream into how these teachings will take shape in my work. New offerings are slowly emerging, and I’m in the process of weaving together everything I’ve been learning into experiences that support deeper self-understanding, healing, embodiment, and connection.

If you’re curious about what’s coming next, I encourage you to sign up for my newsletter. I’ll be sharing details about some new offerings, including a beta program that will be launching in the coming weeks.

Learn. Heal. Grow.

There are some journeys you carry with you long after you return home….

Over the years, there have been so many sweet moments shared in Peru. Beautiful connections, laughter, ceremony, adventure, and perhaps most importantly, deep remembering.

Remembering who we are beneath all the roles we hold, the responsibilities we carry, and the many ways we show up for others.

Maybe you’ve been feeling a little disconnected from yourself lately. Somewhere amongst all the doing, caring, tending, and giving, it can be easy to lose touch with the woman underneath it all.

The woman who longs to feel deeply alive.
To experience wonder.
To be witnessed.
To listen to and trust her own inner knowing.

Sometimes stepping away from the familiar creates just enough space to hear ourselves again.

To reconnect with what matters.
With what makes us feel alive.
With the parts of ourselves we may have forgotten along the way.

Its time to remember.

Come experience the magic for yourself. ✨

Emotional dysregulation can look different for everyone, and it isn’t always obvious. Sometimes it looks like the things we easily recognize—anger, irritability, overwhelm, shutting down, or emotional outbursts.

But sometimes it’s quieter and can look like overthinking a simple decision. Avoiding plans because being around people feels like too much. Feeling disconnected from the people you love. Numbing out with shopping, scrolling, food, work, or staying endlessly busy.

Our nervous systems have many ways of trying to protect us when something feels like too much.Often what we think of as “bad habits,” ……. procrastination, moodiness, avoidance, may actually be a nervous system asking for support.

Learning to recognize our own signs of dysregulation is such an important part of learning how to care for ourselves. Not with judgment, but with curiosity:

What is happening in me right now?

What might my nervous system be responding to?

What would help me feel a little more grounded, safe, and present right now?

Awareness gives us the opportunity to respond differently—to meet ourselves with compassion rather than criticism and begin finding our way back to regulation. ♥️

It’s hard to believe the kiddos will be heading back to school in just a few short weeks!

As you’re checking off those back-to-school lists, don’t forget to stock your home apothecary, too.

Supporting our immune systems as we head into a new school year can be a simple way to help keep the whole family feeling healthy and well through the busy months ahead.
