If you’ve ever thought, “I love my life abroad, but holy crap I feel off/disconnected/unaligned”…this is for you.

Two things can exist at the same time:

You can love your life
AND
Still struggle.

and the most frustrating part, is sometimes you might not be able to put your finger in the exact thing that feels “wrong”.

So we might imagine that it’s simply being homesick.

But it’s not…

It’s not even your old life!

It’s YOU.

or at least, the version of you that once felt familiar.

Because moving abroad requires you to adapt in so many ways that sometimes you don’t realize how much you’ve adapted until you feel “not normal”.

if this is you…comment and tell me:
What part of yourself feels quieter since moving abroad?

The hard thing about being human, is that we love us some evidence.

Which makes it that much harder to trust our intuition, there’s no evidence that what it’s guiding us to…is the right or correct move.

It’s a leap of faith.

Dependent on trust.

So….spend time getting to know yourself. Practice listening to that intuitive guidance, develop your own research and the probability of success when you listen to your intuition.

That way when it guides you to do something scary, your self-trust will be unbreakable.

Basically, you have spent your entire life with social mirrors that reflect who you are.

So when those social mirrors don’t exist anymore…

we feel disconnected.

As we should!

Because all our familiarity has been stripped away.
But that doesn’t mean we have to feel this way forever.

I think the adaptation stage is the coolest because once it’s over, the thriving happens 😏 and you can’t appreciate that stage without the adaptation.

This has definitely been my biggest accomplishment in 2026.

Reserving space for…
My thoughts.
My intuition.

They’ve been drowned out by all the catastrophic noise in the world, society, political messes, fear, anxiety, and worries of the world. Even sometimes drowned out by love, infatuation, excitement, and anticipation.

My body has been screaming at me for years to
Slow.
Down.

And now that I’m doing that,

All the pieces are finally coming together.

Moving abroad didn’t actually break you…

It simply introduced you to parts of yourself that familiarity had been quietly holding together.

Because when our routines disappear,

or we stop hearing our native language,

or no one knows the core of who we are anymore…..

it’s normal to think that we’ve lost ourselves.

But what if I told you that’s actually not the case?

And that you’re just meeting yourself without all the things that used to define you.

And that can be uncomfortable.

BUT it can also become one of the best invitations ever!

If that strikes your curiosity, comment “me”.

In today’s podcast episode with Lara - we talk about one of my biggest breakthroughs as an expat therapist.

When I realized that my lack of social mirrors were contributing to my discomfort living abroad, it was a game changer.

I could now piece together what I was really missing:

• The people who automatically knew/understood me
• The comfort of expressing myself in my own humor
• The ease of doing something as simple as getting an oil change without needing to research the entire process because I have no idea how this works here

There’s always this lingering overhead cloud of feeling out of place.

Even though I speak the language.
Even though I have friends.
Even though I’ve lived here 5+ years.

The environment that once reinforced my identity automatically, no longer exists.

And this is one of the least talked about yet most common experiences expat women deal with.

So I tell them, it’s not that you lost who you are, you are just learning who you are without the familiar reflections you have always relied on.

And that’s one of the most brave things anyone can do 🤍

What social mirrors do you miss from your OG country?

So here’s your reminder…

⏳Start late.

🫨Start imperfectly.

🌬️Start anyway.

Because becoming isn’t built in perfect moments.

It’s built in the decision to keep showing up.

Every time you choose compassion over perfection… you’re becoming her.

She isn’t going to remember the days I questioned everything.

The moments I asked, “Did I make a mistake moving to Spain?”

The loneliness.

The times I didn’t recognize myself.

My entire identity shift..

She’ll only know the version of me who all those little moments created.

And I think this is actually the most beautiful part of moving abroad.

The hardest seasons don’t just change your life…

They change YOU.

If I had walked away every time life abroad felt uncomfortable, I would’ve missed the woman waiting for me on the other side.

And that’s why I do what I do and absolutely love the heck out of it 🤍

Because I don’t want other women to mistake the messy middle for the end of their story.

Sometimes it’s just the beginning of Becoming Her.
