🏅 What a season for the Mary Free Bed Sonics Goalball program!

The Sonics wrapped up the 2026 season with a trip to the USABA National Tournament in Colorado Springs after competing in tournaments across the country.

Season highlights include:
🥇 Women's Team Gold Medal in Farmington Hills
🥉 Men's Green Team Bronze Medal in Phoenix
🥇 Men's Black Team Gold Medal in New Jersey
💪 Quarterfinal appearance at the USABA National Tournament, falling to the No. 1 seed by just one goal
⭐ One athlete selected to the USABA Youth National Team
⭐ One athlete named an alternate for the USABA Youth National Team

🔥Grand River Shootout Weekend Success! 🔥

August 1 | Ionia Grand Prix
August 2 | East Grand Rapids Gaslight Criterium

Five members of the Mary Free Bed Handcycle Team had an incredible hometown racing experience this past weekend at the Grand River Shootout events!

Competing against some familiar faces from the Handcycle Division of the Amway River Bank Run, our athletes took on the fast-paced challenge of criterium-style racing, showcasing their speed, skill, and determination on closed-course city streets.

🏆 Congratulations to Casey Falkner, who claimed 1st place on both race days!

🥉 Steve Chapman also delivered a strong performance, earning 3rd place during Sunday's East Grand Rapids Gaslight Criterium.

We are proud of all our athletes for representing Mary Free Bed and Adaptive sports so well in front of a hometown crowd. Thank you to the event organizers, volunteers, and spectators who made the weekend such a memorable experience!

July 25-26 | Wheelchair Softball Tournament

The West Michigan Rollin' Whitecaps had the opportunity to compete against some of the best teams in the country, taking on Nebraska, Kansas City, LWSRA, and Chicago.

For over 15 years, the Rollin' Whitecaps have been playing wheelchair softball, and this tournament marked a special milestone: the first time our team has ever played under the lights! 🌟

A huge thank you to Romeoville for building and hosting on such a beautiful, accessible field. The experience was one our athletes will never forget!

Next stop: Wheelchair Softball World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, August 13-15. 🥎

What a weekend! 🏐

Teams from Texas, the East Coast, California, and Las Vegas/Kansas City brought incredible competition as we continue preparing for Nationals this September.

A special highlight: this was our first trip to Phoenix where we used the light rail system for all team transportation instead of rental vans! From the airport to the hotel, gym, and team dinner, we traveled entirely by train. It was a fun experience and a great success for the team.

Next stop: Philadelphia in the last week of August! 💪✈️

🌟 National Team Recognition for Mary Free Bed Sonics Athletes!

We are thrilled to celebrate two outstanding members of the Mary Free Bed Sonics who have earned recognition from the United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA)!

🏅 Dequan ( #15) has been selected to the USABA Youth Men’s National Team and will represent Team USA at the 2026 IBSA Goalball Youth World Championship in Kazakhstan, taking place November 27-December 5, 2026.

👏 Andrew ( #1) has also been recognized for his exceptional talent and dedication, earning selection as one of two national team alternates.

Both athletes caught the attention of national team scouts through their impressive performances throughout the 2026 season while proudly representing the Sonics.

We couldn't be more proud of Dequan and Andrew for this incredible achievement. Your hard work, perseverance, and commitment to excellence continue to inspire our entire community.

🧡 Join us in congratulating them and wishing Team USA the very best as they prepare to compete on the world stage. The entire Mary Free Bed family will be cheering them on every step of the way!
