I am a new doctor at the office, started working with this amazing team on August 2025. I grew up in Puerto Rico and moved to Michigan 4 years ago to complete my Pediatric Residency. I recently got married to a bonafide Michigander and we love spending our weekends exploring Michigan. This summer we are getting a puppy! 🐶

1. My brother and I have a 10 month age difference.
2. I stepped on a jellyfish when I was 6 years old.

✳️ Our office will be closed on Thursday, May 21st, from 8:30am-11:00am for CPR training for our staff.✳️

The importance of CPR & BLS cannot be overstated, as these skills are essential in saving lives.
It is essential for parents to obtain the necessary knowledge & skills to respond to emergencies including children & adults.

Here is a little about her:

I am Joanne Peterson, and I have been at Kent Pediatrics for almost 19 years now. I grew up in Grand Rapids, graduated from Calvin College, and went to the University of Michigan for medical school. I came back home for my pediatric residency and then worked at Cherry Street Clinic for a few years before joining our Kent Peds family!
I am married to David (an accountant) and we have two daughters in high school. Our weekends are often spent cheering them on at cross country and track meets!

👋🏻 Hi, this is Dr. Sims! Let’s get to know her better!

⭐️I have been a pediatrician at Kent Pediatrics for 31 years. I got my undergraduate degree from University of Michigan and went to medical school at Michigan State College of Human Medicine. I have 3 adult children who along with my Husband all went to MSU. I just became a grandmother in April and have a second grand daughter due in the summer! I love my job and have been in practice long enough to have many of my original patients bringing their children to me. I love staying connected and seeing my patients and their families grow for years!
