At Grand Rapids Family Chiropractic we are dedicated to educating you on Health and Chiropractic! We strive to help you achieve your goals and improve your quality of life. We believe every individual deserves to be checked for subluxations (vertebral misalignments) that may inhibit your bodies ability to function at its optimal level. We know that if you have subluxations, the communication betwe

en your brain and the rest of the body does not function properly (similar to static on your cell phone or TV). These subluxations can cause a variety of health problems (not limited to just pain). We are devoted to teaching and living a wellness lifestyle with ourselves and our practice members.

I’ve been telling everyone the same to limit your outdoor time and take immune supplements but NAC is something that would be helpful. Take this info from Tammy who is licensed and certified on this subject!

I’ve gotten so many phone calls the last couple of days about the wildfire smoke in Michigan, that I thought I’d make an educational post about it to answer all the questions and help to provide accurate health and safety information with these types of exposures.

1. The haze yellow skies may be pretty, but they are very unhealthy!
Keep your kids indoors on days like today with poor air quality. There’s a lot more in wildfire smoke than just smoke!

There are very dangerous gases, vapors, toxicants, PM2.5, and unknowns. These can include dioxins, volatile organic compounds, and more.
This is very unhealthy breathing air, and no one should be exposed to it!

2. A surgical mask or N95, will NOT help you with wildfire smoke. N95s are not rated to filter out gases, vapors, VOC’s, or many smaller particulates. Don’t waste your money on any of these.

3. Switch your HVAC system from pulling in the outdoor ambient air to recirculating indoor air only. You can do this by switching your fan setting from “auto” to “on”. Keep your doors and windows closed. Do the same thing in your vehicle by using the “recirculate” fan setting.

4. N-Acetyl Cystine (NAC) is a supplement that helps with lung function. The best thing you can do right now is to limit exposure, boost your immune system and lung function with plenty of vitamin C, vitamin D, NAC, and protein, and drink LOTS of water.

Hope this helps! Stay safe, friends!

Happy Monday everyone! Today we’re going to go over the myths you might hear in the chiropractic world, and separating them from the FACTS!
❌ Myth: “The ‘crack’ means bones are being put back in place.”
✅ Fact: The “crack” or popping sound is typically caused by gas bubbles being released from the joint fluid during an adjustment. It doesn’t mean bones are “snapping back into place.”

❌ Myth: “Chiropractic is only for adults.”
✅ Fact: People of many ages, including children, teens, adults, and older adults, may receive chiropractic care. Chiropractors tailor their techniques based on a person’s age, size, and health needs.

❌ Myth: “It’s just for back pain.”
✅ Fact: While chiropractors commonly treat back pain, they also evaluate and manage other musculoskeletal conditions, including neck pain, certain types of headaches, and joint-related issues. The specific treatment depends on the individual’s condition.

❌ Myth: “Once you go, you have to go forever.”
✅ Fact: Your spine plays a vital role in how you move every day. Choosing chiropractic care is a way to invest in your long-term health. While some people come in for a specific concern, many continue because they feel it’s an important part of maintaining an active, healthy lifestyle.

❌ Myth: “Chiropractors aren’t ‘real’ doctors.”
✅ Fact: Chiropractors are licensed healthcare professionals who complete years of education and hands-on clinical training to earn their Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree.

Why do we see kids? They are subject to these misalignments (subluxations) as well. Medical research shows us it only takes 4lbs of pressure to break a bone - and even less to cause a hard bone to misalign on a soft nerve.

Let's talk Cooking Oil...

The best oils to use when deep frying:
1. Coconut oil or palm oil
2. Tallow (fat from grass-fed beef)
3. Ghee
4. Olive oil (keep below 400 degrees)
5. Avocado oil

The oils you would want to avoid using when deep frying are unsaturated oils. Unsaturated oils are very unstable, and they oxidize easily, especially when heated.

A few examples of unsaturated oils:
• Soy oil
• Corn oil
• Sunflower seed oil
• Safflower seed oil
• Peanut oil
• Canola oil
• Cottonseed oil

We are committed to teaching and educating you and your family to better health! Enjoy this tip and please share with your family and friends!

Stop in this week and keep you Body and Nervous System regulated.

Waiting until your tank is on empty before taking care of yourself is reactive, and leads to lower health outcomes.

Being proactive with your habits will keep you functioning at a higher level. Whether is is eating, exercising or getting adjusted, create the habits that support the lifestyle you want to live.

While most prefer to keep their battery on high power if it is on low we can still help!

We were busy serving our community yesterday but happy to celebrate 130 years of the best Chiropractic care! Did you know the first adjustment September 18, 1895 was not done because of back pain, neck pain, headache, etc. but with the miracle of restoring function to the spine and nerve system it restored a deaf man’s hearing and hence Chiropractic was born!
