This patient is a 16-year-old athlete who, three weeks ago, tore his ACL, sprained his LCL, sustained a lateral meniscus contusion, and suffered a tibial bone contusion. Overall, a pretty extensive knee injury that, in most cases, would lead directly to surgical intervention.
However, the patient and his family wanted to postpone surgery so he could continue playing during his junior season, which is an important year for recruiting.
After completing all functional testing, he was cleared by both his athletic trainer and orthopedic physician. He currently has no pain and reports that his knee feels completely stable.
This is an incredible outcome, and also a great example of how an MRI can tell one story while the patient tells another. Despite significant orthopedic findings on imaging, he is back to playing pain-free just three weeks after the injury.
And by the way — he scored nearly half of his team’s goals in his first game back.
If you are struggling with pain that doesn’t seem to improve, or if imaging has made surgery feel inevitable, take the leap and schedule a visit today.
What’s the worst that could happen?
You might finally find some answers and start changing your pain.
Sounds pretty good to me.
