The Fountain Hill Center

The Fountain Hill Center The Fountain Hill Center is a nonprofit collective of over a dozen licensed, independent therapists.

We provide individual, couples, family, and group counseling from two locations in West Michigan. The Fountain Hill Center was founded in 1975 by Central Reformed Church in Grand Rapids as "The Marriage and Family Center" by a group of lay members who believed that if the Church was to take "caring" seriously, it needed to create a counseling center that would serve both the congregation of Centra

l and the greater Grand Rapids community. Andy Atwood, then working at Central as a part-time Minister to Singles, became the Center's first and founding staff member and began offering counseling services from the first floor of The Bundy House, a historic home located in the Heritage Hill neighborhood of Grand Rapids. In 1986, the Center's operations expanded to the second floor of The Bundy House, and in 1991, with the help of a generous and supportive donor, The Marriage and Family Center was able to purchase the entire house from Central Reformed Church for use as a counseling center. In 1996, The Marriage and Family Center changed its name to The Fountain Hill Center for Counseling and Consultation. Today, over a dozen therapists and interns provide counseling services from The Bundy House and a secondary office located in New Era, MI, which opened in 2002. As a Center, we work together to hone our counseling practices and put our vocations to work responding to the mental health and wellness needs of our clients, neighborhoods, and West Michigan community.

🎗 September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month 🎗

A cancer diagnosis changes life for an entire family. Along with the physical challenges of treatment, individuals and their loved ones often experience anxiety, grief, uncertainty, and emotional stress. This month, we are proud to spotlight one of our newest community partners.

Fountain Hill Center is honored to be one of the trusted community resources included by New Day Foundation for Families when families are seeking counseling and emotional support. As New Day Foundation for Families works with families facing the financial and emotional impact of cancer, they provide information about a network of partnering organizations, empowering each family to choose the resources that best meet their needs.

For those who choose Fountain Hill Center, our therapists provide compassionate counseling for individuals, couples, children, and families navigating the emotional challenges that often accompany a cancer diagnosis. Whether someone is processing difficult emotions, supporting a loved one through treatment, or helping a child make sense of life's changes, we are here to provide a safe place to heal.

Together, Fountain Hill Center and New Day Foundation for Families share a common belief: no family should have to face the emotional journey of cancer alone. By connecting families with a network of caring community partners, we can help ensure they have access to the support, hope, and healing they deserve.

The goal of National Grief Awareness Day is to raise awareness about grief and support those coping with loss. One of the biggest misconceptions about grief is that you go through it and then get over it. But that is simply not the case. Grief is not linear. Grief is fluid. Grief doesn't come with a rulebook or a set path. Grief is deeply personal and isn't limited to the loss experienced by the death of a loved one.

If you are suffering today, please know that you are not alone. You are not broken; you are not worthless. You are simply arranging the pieces of a newly defined life that no one is ever truly prepared for.

Take a little time today for reflection, meditation, and self-care. If that feels like too much, reach out to a friend or loved one for support. And if that feels like too much, send us a message or give us a call. Our staff is here to help you navigate your grief journey. You don't have to walk through it alone.

988 is here for you 24/7. Call, text, or chat 988.

Helping men reclaim their emotions is foundational to the work of the Men's Resource Center of West Michigan. But there's more to the story. The Men's Resource Center of West Michigan teaches men to integrate their emotional life in the way they think, relate, lead, parent, work, and love. Therapist Randy Flood defines this overarching concept as relational wisdom.

In the recent Revealing Men podcast, Randy shares the framework for acquiring this balance of emotion and relational awareness. Follow the link below to read the article or listen to it wherever you stream your favorite podcast.

Did you know that spending time with dogs can boost your mental health?

Research shows that our four-legged friends can:
✨ Lower stress and anxiety
✨ Provide comfort and companionship
✨ Encourage movement and routine
✨ Remind us we’re not alone

Spend time with your fur friend today, and if you're not a pet owner, take advantage of those neighborhood dogs or volunteer at a local shelter. Drop of photo of your fur friend, we'd love to see who supports you at home 🐾
