This is a fascinating article from The New York Times. It explains why inflammation matters without turning it into another wellness buzzword or suggesting that we should try to eliminate it completely.

Inflammation is part of how the body protects and heals itself. The concern is chronic, low-level inflammation: immune activity that continues even when there is no immediate threat. Over time, that ongoing activity may contribute to health conditions that become more common as women age, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cognitive decline, and certain cancers.

The central message is nuanced: inflammation is not simply “good” or “bad.” It is one more example of why women’s health should be viewed as an interconnected story, not a collection of isolated symptoms. Longer, but a great read!

The discovery that chronic inflammation is a cause of myriad illnesses could be this century's biggest medical breakthrough.

Today we’re wishing a very happy 60th birthday to our own Dr. Diana Bitner! Our co-founder, educator, advocate, and the heart behind so much of the true. Women’s Health mission.

Dr. B has a gift for helping women feel seen, heard, and more informed about their bodies. From caring for patients, mentoring providers, teaching, speaking in the community and around the world, contributing to government and policy conversations, and leading important discussions about women’s health, she brings the same clarity, compassion, and deep commitment to helping all women truly live well.

Her work continues to shape not only the care we provide at true., but the larger conversation around what women deserve from healthcare in exam rooms, in communities, and in the systems that impact women’s access to care.

We are grateful for her leadership, her vision, her bottomless energy, and the way she keeps reminding women that knowledge is power!

Please join us in wishing Dr. Bitner the happiest birthday. Cheers to another year of learning from you and celebrating all you do. 🎂

It’s so great to see the field of obesity medicine continuing to evolve!

true.’s Dr. Celia Egan recently joined Janice Allen FOX 17 to discuss retatrutide, a new medication being studied by Eli Lilly.

Unlike current GLP-1 medications, retatrutide is a triple agonist, meaning it mimics three different hormones involved in appetite, metabolism, and blood sugar regulation.

Recent clinical trial results have shown average body weight reductions approaching 30% at the highest dose studied! While those results are promising, Dr. Egan explained a more powerful medication does not necessarily mean it is the right choice for everyone. Retatrutide’s greatest potential may be for patients who need substantial weight loss or are managing conditions such as Type 2 diabetes and fatty liver disease.

Retatrutide is not yet FDA-approved, but Eli Lilly plans to submit it for FDA review in the first quarter of 2027. Dr. Egan will keep us up to date as the medication goes through the review process.

Thank you to Janice Allen and FOX 17 for always bringing thoughtful, informed conversations about metabolic health to West Michigan!

Can you believe it? We’re over halfway through the year.

How are you feeling? Not just “busy” or “fine”. But really, how are you?

How is your sleep? Energy? Mood?
How is your weight?
What are your periods like?
What about hot flashes? Libido?
Your stress?
Do you feel like yourself?

Midyear is a good time to pause and notice what your body has been trying to tell you. If something has changed, feels harder than it used to, or keeps getting pushed to the bottom of the list to “deal with later”, it may be time for a conversation.

At true., our wellness programs are designed to help women get the kind of support that fits what they’re navigating right now. You don’t have to wait until January to reset your health.

Lipedema is real. It is medical. And it is still too often misunderstood, misdiagnosed, or missed entirely.

That’s why research, awareness, and provider education matter so much.

We are proud to share that our very own, Dr. Celia Egan is listed as an author on a newly published article in Frontiers in Global Women’s Health focused on improving how lipedema data is collected across research studies.

The paper highlights the Lipedema Common Case Report Form (CCRF), a shared research framework designed to help researchers collect lipedema information more consistently. Why does that matter? Because better, more consistent data can help improve understanding, strengthen future research, and support better care over time.

Dr. Egan has been deeply involved in advancing lipedema awareness through her work with patients, the true. Lipedema Support Community, and the Lipedema Foundation, including educational content adapted into CME training for healthcare professionals.

Congratulations, Dr. Egan, and thank you for your continued leadership in this important space!
