Most kids struggling in a classroom aren't struggling with learning. They're struggling with something going on underneath the surface.

That's exactly what our Apples and Maples program is designed for. It's an early childhood program that models what a real school day looks like, but with therapeutic support built into every part of it. For kids coming in with trauma histories, anxiety, attachment needs, or sensory challenges, that extra layer of support can make all the difference.

We're helping kids learn to notice what they're feeling, like "I'm overwhelmed" or "I'm angry," and giving them the words and confidence to ask for help before things boil over.

Because when a child can recognize what their brain and body need in the moment, everything shifts. Not just in the classroom, but at home, with friends, everywhere.

That's the whole person approach we believe in at Roots. We look at the brain, the body, the history, and the personality behind every child, not just the behavior on the surface.

Curious if Apples and Maples could be a fit for your child? Reach out, we'd love to talk it through.

If your child has been working on a sound like the R for a while and not making progress, it might not be a practice problem.

It might be a motor speech problem, and those two things require very different approaches.

Traditional speech therapy focuses on sound practice. That works for a lot of kids. But for some, there is something happening underneath that practice alone cannot reach: the way the tongue, jaw, lips, and facial muscles are functioning together.

That is where myofunctional therapy comes in.

Myofunctional therapy is a specialized approach that addresses how the oral muscles actually coordinate and function — improving resting mouth posture, nasal breathing, swallowing skills, neck tension, and speech sound production together. Not just drilling sounds in isolation.

Because here is what most parents are never told: jaw position, oral muscle coordination, and swallowing patterns are all connected to how speech sounds are produced. When those underlying mechanics are off, no amount of sound practice is going to fully fix it.

Getting to the root of what is making production difficult? That is where real, lasting progress begins.

Therapy did not work for you before. So why would it be any different now?

It is a fair question. And the honest answer is: because the right fit matters more than most people know.

Not every therapeutic approach works for every person. Not every environment feels safe enough to do real work. And not every therapist relationship creates the kind of trust that healing actually requires.

When therapy feels too clinical, too surface-level, or like you are just going through a script — it is not because you are too far gone or not trying hard enough. It is often because something about the approach, the environment, or the connection was not right for you specifically.

At Roots, we start by understanding what someone has already been through, what they have already tried, and what they genuinely need. Then we build from there.

Healing is not always linear. People come back to therapy at different stages of life with new readiness, new goals, and new capacity for the work. That is not a setback. That is exactly how it is supposed to go.

Just because it did not work before does not mean it cannot work now.

Reach out if you are ready to try again.

Not all therapy is the same. And if you have tried it before without seeing real progress, that might be exactly why.

Most traditional approaches treat one symptom at a time, with one provider, using one modality.

At Roots, we look at the whole picture — six specialized disciplines working together under one roof, addressing root causes instead of surface symptoms, and treating the brain and body as the connected system they actually are.

The difference is not just philosophical. It shows up in outcomes.

Swipe to see what makes our approach different. And reach out if you are ready to experience it.

Waking up tense every day. Stuck in a posture you cannot seem to shake. Headaches that keep coming back. Trouble sleeping. Chronic pain that never fully resolves.

These are not random, unrelated symptoms. For a lot of people, they are the fascia asking for attention.

The fascial system connects every part of your body — organs, muscles, nerves, glands, and your entire nervous system — in one continuous web. When there is restriction or tension anywhere in that web, the effects show up across the whole body.

What makes craniosacral fascial therapy unique is that it does not treat just one system. CFT works the craniosacral system and the fascial system together, because these two systems do not operate in isolation.

They work in tandem. And targeting both at the same time creates the conditions for deeper, more lasting healing than either approach alone.

If you have been dealing with any of these symptoms and have not found lasting relief, CFT may be worth exploring. Four to five sessions is typically enough to know whether it is going to support your specific needs.

Anxiety. Gut health issues. Trouble focusing. Neck tension. Behavioral challenges.

They look like separate problems. Most of the time, they are treated that way.

But what if they are not separate at all?

At Roots, we see this pattern constantly. Someone comes in for one thing and it does not take long to see that what looks like three different issues is actually one system struggling to keep up in multiple places at once.

That is because all of our systems develop and interact together. The way a person processes sensory input, regulates emotions, and functions internally are not independent of each other. They are woven together. When one part of that system is dysregulated, the effects show up across the whole web.

Treating just one symptom without looking at the whole picture is often exactly why progress feels so slow.

At Roots, we take a different approach. We look at sensory processing, emotional regulation, and internal systems together, so nothing gets missed and nothing gets left behind.

When you support what is actually happening underneath, you do not just see small improvements. You see real, lasting change.

Because when everything starts working together, so does your capacity to heal.

"Our bodies were made to heal themselves. We just have to put ourselves in the place to allow that to happen."

That is Luke, one of our clients, sharing what EMDR therapy has been like for him at Roots.

He came in expecting a lot of questions. A lot of analysis.
What he found instead was something quieter - and more powerful.

EMDR works by creating the conditions for the brain and body to do what they were already designed to do. Process. Integrate. Heal. The therapist is not fixing anything. They are facilitating and making space for the healing that was always possible.

For Luke, he described a moment when something clicked - a feeling of peace washed over him as a memory surfaced, and then a sense of knowing that he would be okay. The grief remained, but so did a new steadiness.

And that’s what real progress looks like: small, profound shifts that allow the mind, body, and spirit to integrate and do what they were created to do.

If you have been wondering whether EMDR could help you, we would love to connect. Reach out to get started.

Most people think of occupational therapy as helping kids hold a pencil or tie their shoes.
But specialized OT goes much deeper than that.

What you are seeing here are embracing squeezes, a technique that uses gentle pressure along the arms and legs to send tactile and proprioceptive input directly to the brain. That input helps calm and organize the nervous system, making it especially helpful for people who:

Crash, fall, or seek full body input throughout the day
Struggle to settle or wind down at night
Have sensory processing challenges
Seem constantly on the go or have difficulty regulating

Proprioceptive input, the kind that comes from pressure and resistance, is one of the most powerful tools for nervous system regulation. And this particular technique is the kind you will not find just by googling a general OT.

At Roots, our occupational therapist specializes in exactly this kind of work, getting to the root of why a person's system is dysregulated and giving the brain and body the input they need to find balance.

Curious if OT could help you or your child? We would love to connect.
