Your glute med is one of the most important muscles for hip stability and lower-body control. It helps keep your pelvis level, improves balance, and supports proper movement at the hip, knee, and ankle.
Strengthening it isn’t just about doing one exercise—it’s about progressing as you get stronger. Here’s one of my favorite progressions:
🔥 Level 1: Banded Clamshells
Build foundational glute med strength and activation.
⬆️ Level 2: Star Plank + Hip Abduction
Increase the challenge by combining lateral core stability with single-leg glute strength.
🔥 Level 3: Banded Side Steps
Train your glutes in a functional, upright position while improving endurance and movement control.
⬆️ Level 4: Single-Leg Resisted Hip Abduction/External Rotation
Challenge your balance, hip stability, and glute strength in a movement that closely resembles walking, running, and sport-specific demands.
Remember: the goal isn’t to stay at the beginner exercises forever. Progressively increasing the challenge helps your strength translate into real-life movement, whether you’re returning to sports, chasing your kids, hiking, or simply moving with less pain.
💪 Strong glutes. Better stability. Better movement.
