Happy Memorial Day! 🇺🇸
We hope that everyone has a great & safe weekend! We will be closed today Monday, May 25, and we will resume normal clinic hours tomorrow Tuesday at 2. This holiday, along with every other benefit of freedom that we enjoy, is available to us because of the people that live, fight and die to keep us safe- so WE thank YOU! 🇺🇸
I would like to acknowledge a military veteran who was close to me & passed away this weekend. Peter Gillis II was an incredible bonus grandpa that I was gifted with when I married Angela. Grandpa Pete passed away at 7:12am on 5/23/26. He was in the U.S. Navy and served his country in the 1950’s. He married the love of his life, Nancy, & they had 6 incredible kids. Pete III, Greg, Brian, Kathy, Karen and Tom. A fun fact: Grandma Nancy was good friends with Florence Henderson, who played the mom on the TV show The Brady Bunch. Florence requested that the boys in the TV show could be named after the Gillis boys, and that’s what happened. For as fascinating as that may be, it blows my mind that this unique detail is not even close to being the most impressive thing about Grandpa Pete. He was still traveling the world into his 90’s. Each year he would give substantial gifts to his kids and all of his grandkids at Christmas- every year for as long as I have known him. I was telling Angela yesterday something that may have impacted me the most. We are often told not to make decisions, both personal and business alike, based on emotion, however, that’s exactly how our minds work. Our subconscious and innate/gut instinct create a universal need called ‘psychological air’: everyone wants to be accepted and approved of to an extent-in all encounters, whether they say it or not. I’ve met a lot of incredible people in my life, but without any question, I can say that Grandpa Pete was the best at this- making you feel like you were important. I joke and say that my father-in-law, Pete, is the mayor of every room that he walks into. If you have ever met Pete, then you love Pete. If you don’t love Pete, then that is probably because you coached a baseball, softball, basketball, football or volleyball team against him at one point in time 😅 Pete will talk to anyone, in any situation, at any given time, and he genuinely cares about that person. He cares what they have to say, and they can feel it. He learned this incredible trait from his dad.
People almost never remember what you say; they rarely remember what you do, but they always remember how you made them feel when you said or did what you did. Grandpa Pete mastered this, and it came naturally to him bc he was a genuine man.
The caliber of a person that Grandpa Pete was, I will chase for a lifetime. I won’t ever attain it, because he was 1 of 1. Now he’s landed where he was always meant to be, and for that I am thankful.
Thank you, Pete. Thank you for being the man that you were. The faithful follower of Christ; the husband that you were to your wife; the dad you were to your family; the military man that you were for your country; the grandpa that you were to me and my family. We love you!
