Mackie Funeral Service Service with dedication and compassion. Helping Families and Friends Honor Their Loved Ones

09/23/2026

We had a very special visitor at Mackie Funeral Service today!

Harrison ESDK9 and Doug Dupell joined us for our Community BBQ, and Andy had the chance to sit down with Doug to learn a little more about Harrison and the important work they do throughout our community.

Harrison serves in a way only a four-legged friend can — offering comfort, building connections, and bringing a little extra joy wherever he goes. We are grateful for Doug’s dedication to our community and for all the lives Harrison touches along the way.

At Mackie, we believe serving our community goes far beyond the walls of the funeral home, and today was a wonderful reminder of just how many good people — and good pups — are working to make Caldwell County a better place.

Thank you to Doug and Harrison for spending the day with us!

No agenda. Just good food, grateful hearts and a chance for us to say thank you for the dedication, compassion and care you show our community every day.

There’s a lot of history standing in this photograph.

Taken around 1956, this photo captures the Mackie staff during an era when funeral service looked much different than it does today. But the heart of the work was much the same — neighbors caring for neighbors during some of life’s most difficult moments.

The story of Mackie Funeral Service reaches back more than a century. In 1914, Marvin Abram “Doc” Mackie operated a general store in Granite Falls where, like many general stores of the time, coffins were among the goods sold. As the community’s needs grew, so did Doc Mackie’s role in caring for families after a death. By 1917, he had closed the grocery business and established a furniture store and funeral home.

At a time when Granite Falls had neither a funeral home nor a funeral director, the Mackie family helped establish professional funeral service in this community.

Generations have passed since this photograph was taken. Buildings have changed. Funeral customs have changed. Faces have changed.

But more than a century later, the Mackie name remains part of the story of Granite Falls and the families who call this area home.

We’re honored to preserve photographs like this one and to remember the men and women who helped build the legacy entrusted to us today.

At Mackie Funeral Service, we believe that caring for our community goes far beyond the services we provide. We are honored to give back by donating school supplies to Caldwell County DSS to help support children in our community who attend local schools throughout Caldwell County.

Every child deserves the opportunity to start the school year prepared, confident, and ready to learn. We are grateful for the opportunity to play a small part in helping local students and families.

A special thank you to Mr. Tristan Dameron for allowing us to be a part of this meaningful effort and for helping make it possible for us to support the children and families of Caldwell County. We truly appreciate the work you do for our community!

Mackie Funeral Service is proud to serve, support, and give back to the community we call home.

Some people leave behind more than songs, awards, or a name remembered around the world. They leave behind a legacy that finds its way into places they may never have even visited…into small towns, mountain communities, family homes, churches, schools, and the hearts of ordinary people.

Dolly Parton was one of those people.

From her humble beginnings in the mountains of East Tennessee to becoming one of the most beloved entertainers and humanitarians in the world, Dolly never seemed to forget where she came from. She carried the values of faith, family, hard work, kindness, humor, and generosity with her throughout her life.

Through her music, her giving, her Imagination Library, and countless acts of kindness, Dolly touched lives in communities all across America and around the world…including right here in our own.

There are stories of the lives she impacted that Dolly herself may have never known.

And perhaps now, her family deserves the opportunity to hear some of them. ❤️

This week, Mackie Funeral Service & Cremations will have a special memorial guest book available for our community to sign in honor of Dolly’s life and legacy.

We invite you to stop by Monday through Thursday, from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM, to sign your name or leave a few words about what Dolly, her music, her generosity, or her Appalachian spirit meant to you and your family.

When the book is complete, it will be sent to Dolly’s family in Nashville as a small reminder that her influence reached far beyond the stage.

One signature may seem like a small thing.

But together, they can tell the story of just how far one mountain girl’s light traveled.

May this book offer her family just a glimpse of the countless lives she touched…even in little communities far from the spotlight.

Thank you, Dolly, for the music, the laughter, the generosity, and for never forgetting the mountains that made you. Your legacy will live on for generations.

There’s something comforting about the steady sound of a clock in an old home.

At Mackie Funeral Service, Andy’s collection of clocks has become part of the character of this historic house each one unique, each one with a story of its own.

In this video, Andy shares a few of his clocks and gives us a glimpse into a collection that brings a little history, warmth, and personality to the place we’re honored to call Mackie Funeral Service.

We hope you enjoy this quieter look inside our home.

Today, we’re celebrating the heart behind Mackie Funeral Services—our owner, Andy.

Owning a funeral home is so much more than running a business. It means answering late-night calls, comforting families during their hardest moments, carrying the weight of their grief, and serving this community with compassion every single day. Andy pours his heart and soul into this calling, always striving to ensure that every family who walks through our doors is treated with dignity, kindness, and respect.

His dedication, integrity, and genuine care for others are evident in everything he does, and we’re grateful for the example he sets and the difference he makes in so many lives.

Today, we celebrate not only another year of life but also the incredible person behind Mackie Funeral Services.

Please join us in wishing Andy a very Happy Birthday! May this year bring you abundant blessings, good health, and as much kindness as you so freely give to others.

Happy Birthday Andy!! We love you!

Just a few folks who believe serving our community starts with slowing down, sitting a spell, and enjoying the simple things in life. RC Colas, MoonPies, and good company. ❤️🥤🌙

Thank you Clyde for the RC Colas and moon pies. A simple gesture that reminds us that the simple things in life are sometimes the absolute best. Friendship & fellowship on the front porch does the soul good 😊

When you choose a family-owned funeral home, you’re not just choosing a service—you’re choosing people who care on a personal level.

From a financial standpoint, you’re not dealing with corporate pressure or upselling—you’re working with a family that values honesty and transparency.

From a service standpoint, you’re not just another number. You’re someone’s neighbor, someone’s friend… someone who matters.

At Mackie, we believe every life deserves to be honored with care, compassion, and dignity.
Because here, you’re family.

And at Mackie, you matter.
