Happy Pride Month, Texas!
It’s worth noting that for many LGBTQIA+ Texans, Pride arrives this year carrying both celebration and grief…
Over the past several years, legislation impacting LGBTQIA+ people (especially transgender students, adults, and their families) has left many feeling unseen, exhausted, or uncertain about their place in the communities they call home. The emotional weight of these experiences is real. Fear, anger, sadness, and disappointment are natural responses when your dignity, safety, or belonging feels challenged.
And yet, the Badge Of Pride exhibit reminds me that Pride has never been born from easy circumstances.
Pride is a reminder that LGBTQIA+ people have always existed, have always found one another, and have always built community, even in difficult times. Every act of authenticity, every supportive conversation, every safe space created, and every person who chooses compassion over fear is evidence that HOPE is alive.
As a therapist, I see the resilience, courage, and strength that LGBTQIA+ folx bring into my sessions every day. I see families learning to support one another. I see communities showing up. I see young people envisioning futures where they can thrive. These stories matter, too.
This Pride Month, I feel the need to honor both the hurt and the hope.
You deserve spaces where you are respected.
You deserve relationships where you are valued.
You deserve a future where you can be fully yourself.
No piece of legislation can erase the truth that you belong.
Happy Pride Month. As always, I am grateful you are here. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
