A fun fact for you! For every release that happens in muscles and connective tissues, endorphins are also released. This is the "massage drunk" feeling that is felt after a massage which dissipates after about 8-10 mins.
I make my clients laugh when I tell them it will feel like they took 3 shots of tequila when they get off the table. Especially if we have been focusing on therapeutic work (release of the muscles versus relax) on the body.
It makes you feel like you are walking on clouds. It's pretty comical when they come out that room and cannot walk straight. 😄
YOUR BODY MAKES ITS OWN PAIN-MODULATING MOLECULES. 🧠⚡
And their origin is fascinating.
ENDORPHINS.
Natural chemical messengers involved in how your nervous system processes pain.
HERE’S WHAT MAKES THEM REMARKABLE:
🧠 Endorphins interact with specialized opioid receptors that help regulate pain signaling.
⚡ One important example is BETA-ENDORPHIN.
🧬 Your body produces it by processing a larger protein called POMC.
BUT HERE’S THE SURPRISING PART:
That same precursor protein can also give rise to ACTH, a hormone involved in your body’s stress-response system!
One precursor. Different biological messengers.
An extraordinary example of how your body reuses molecular building blocks.
Did you know your body makes its own pain-regulating peptides? 👀
