Many things can affect a person's mental health, and there is no single reason why some people struggle with their mental health.

Some people who go through extremely hard situations (like abuse, chronic illness, or lack of housing) may never develop mental health issues. On the other hand, people may still struggle with mental health isssues even if they have never experienced these challenges.

Research from the CDC shows that we can help improve overall mental health for ourselves and our community if we work together to reduce stigma, lower stress, and support healthy, safe environments. This can be especially important for children and teens.

People who are already living with a mental health condition CAN get better, recover, and live healthy, meaningful lives.

If you need immediate support, just call or text 988. Trained counselors are available 24/7.

Frontier Health hosted our biannual Leadership Retreat last week, and our managers came away inspired, motivated, and more prepared than ever to serve our community.

After a morning educational session, CEO Kristie Hammonds led a group discussion encouraging participants to share their "why," or their motivation behind their work. She explained that, keeping that motivational statement top-of-mind can be helpful during difficult days.

Participants also shared client success stories and reflected on the meaningful impact their work has on the individuals and families we serve each day.

When someone says, “It’s all in your head,” it can make a person feel ashamed, weak, or dismissed. Mental health conditions are real health conditions, and the effects can show up in both the mind and body.

Research from the National Institute of Mental Health shows that mental health struggles can also cause real physical symptoms. For example, anxiety can lead to headaches, chest pain, stomach problems, trouble sleeping, muscle tension, and a racing heart.

Your pain is not “made up.”
Your feelings are not “too much.”
And you deserve support just like anyone facing a physical illness.

Our mental and physical health are much more connected than many people realize. You can’t take care of one while ignoring the other.

If you break your arm, you wouldn’t put off seeking care. You would likely visit the hospital, get a cast, and rest while you heal. You wouldn’t tell yourself “It’s not a big deal” or worry what people will think of you if you seek help.

People often take the opposite approach with mental health issues. They put off care, try to “tough it out,” or tell themselves, “Other people have it worse than I do.”

Just because the injury can’t be seen with the eye doesn’t mean it isn’t important.

If you or someone you know is hurting, don’t hesitate to reach out by calling or texting 988. Trained counselors are available 24/7.

We are so excited to now offer a full-service pharmacy right inside our Nolachuckey-Holston Area Mental Health Center in Greeneville!

The pharmacy, which was created in partnership with Genoa Healthcare, hosted its grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony today.

The addition of the on-site pharmacy makes care more convenient and accessible for our clients, as they now only have to make one stop to receive behavioral services, counseling, and prescribed medications.

This marks the fourth Genoa pharmacy within a Frontier Health facility, with others located in Kingsport's Holston Counseling Center, Bristol's Behavioral Health Services, and Johnson City's Watauga Behavioral Health Services.

There are many myths surrounding OCD, often made worse by media portrayals and casual slang. Here are three myths you can help “bust” about OCD:

MYTH 1: OCD is just about being overly neat and organized.
FACT: While some people with OCD do have compulsions related to cleanliness, many others do not. OCD is a real disorder that causes intrusive thoughts (obsessions), repeated behavior (compulsions), or both.

MYTH 2: People With OCD are just overreacting or being dramatic.
FACT: OCD is real and can significantly impact a person’s daily life. Myths like this make people with OCD feel judged or like their pain isn’t taken seriously. It can even keep people from seeking treatment.

MYTH 3: There’s nothing you can do about OCD.
FACT: OCD is very common and is highly treatable, even for the most severe forms. A mental health professional can help you find the right treatment for you.
