If you are above 50 yrs of age and are having trouble with both legs, trouble walking for over 5 minutes, legs feeling heavy, and you have to sit for a few minutes to recharge your legs, you may have spinal stenosis.
Spinal stenosis is arthritis of the spine that grows and closes the opening of the central spinal canal (where the spinal cord descends), or foraminal stenosis (where the nerves, blood vessels, and lymph nodes exit the vertebrae and go to the extremities). Stenosis means closing of an opening.
What can Chiropractic do to help this? Joints are made to move. When they are not moving properly, they create a degenerative state, which creates more inflammation, bony changes, and muscle spasm. The soft tissues that surround these openings become thickened and cause the compression of the nerves, blood vessels, and lymph nodes.
Chiropractic adjustments to dysfunctional joints gets them moving better, even with the degeneration that has been there for some time. The joints respond better and communicate to the brain that they are doing what they are designed to do. The brain-body connection sees this increase in function and reduces the inflammatory process in those areas. The swollen tissues recede, and now you have more room in that nerve space. This results in less pain, better flow of nerve impulses and blood flow, and a better ability to walk.
