Grayslake Rams Football
I just wanted to give a Shout Out for the new Head Coach of Grayslake Central HS Football, Brent Pitt. He is committed to GCHS sports, he is positive, he has a positive track record with the athletes, and he is within the school. I believe that he will help rebuild this program with the help of the players. He has already been talking with the Grayslake Colts program to help unify the HS and Youth programs. This has not been done in over 20 yrs.

I attended Grayslake HS back in the day when it was only the RAMS. We played Colts football. We had a good core group of guys here in Grayslake, and when we went to high school, we met some other great athletes from other towns. Together we became a TEAM. We never really had much success above a 500 program in the win columns until our Senior year. We were 6-3 and went to the playoffs for the first time is school history in 1989. Our juniors behind us followed and went to the playoffs again the next year. Grayslake has since had several runs during the playoffs since.
What made the difference? The dedication to be better, believing in ourselves and each other, working out together, and hold each other accountable, and a Don't Quit Attitude. Also a strong youth football program, like the Grayslake Colts.

For the rest of your life, the time you spent with your buddies on the field, and in the weight room together is irreplaceable. When we get together as adults (50+ now) we still bring up the same stories and laugh about the fun we had. That's the brotherhood you develop that will last a lifetime.
So parents and athletes, get your sons out playing football at Grayslake Central and the Grayslake Colts. Bring back the tradition of winning, community, and pride in the Green and White!

Resurgence of the Flu:
Within the past month, more and more people are becoming ill again with the flu and other virsuses. This is the time of the year. Make sure to get the basic elements that help keep our immune system's resistance high. Those key elements are:
1. Good Nutrition (Diet and Supplements)
2. Good Sleep
3. Reduce Stress
4. Exercise
5. Get Outdoors
Lastly, Get Your Spine Adjusted to optimize the nerve flow from the brain to the rest of the body to react to the best of its ability. This should be part of everyone's health regimen. Crisis care is good but only for pain. Prevention/Maintenance Care keeps you feeling great.

Whiplash Injuries from Motor Vehicle Collisions
Whiplash affects the spine, tendons, muscles and ligaments of the neck and upper back regions following a MVC. Whiplash actually happens within .8 milliseconds of impact. A MVC is a physics equation that measures the amount of Force and Kinetic Energy and the change in direction of that Energy. Force is created from the mass of one or more vehicles and the velocity of each vehicle it travels at and the Change of Force between each vehicle. (F=Mass x Acceleration). That Force or Kinetic Energy is transmitted through each vehicle and the occupants. The foremost authority on whiplash is Dr. Arthur Croft, Chiropractor. He had to do a reconstruction of a MVC in which the occupant of one vehicle was injured while stopped and the opposing vehicle rear-ended them at a 7mph. He put a grid behind the one vehicle that was at a complete stop to measure occupant movement and had a track that the other vehicle was on. They got the opposing car traveling at 7mp and measured the Forces of impact using the equation above. The occupant of the vehicle that was at rest had 12G's of Force that traveled through the vehicle and them. When they slowed down the film with the grid behind the occupant of the stationary vehicle, you could see the person's neck ramp up and go into hyperextension within the .8 milliseconds. The occupant was a researcher, she actually recieve a disc herniation in the experiment. Just for reference, a fighter jet at take off registers about 9-10 G's worth of Force. Whiplash causes damage to the spine of the ligaments and muscles, and alters the motion of the spine. If you do not treat the areas affected and you allow it to just heal and wait for the pain to go away. In a matter of 2-3 years you can begin to see degenerative changes to the spine where the injury occurred. You need to restore the motion and function of those damaged joints in order to reduce the degenerative process from occurring. Chiropractic care is the best solution.
If you have been involved in a MVC, stop in and have Dr. John check you out and get ou back to your pre-injury state.

Problems with the Lower Extremity
Foot, Ankle, Knee, and Hip problems create biomechanical alterations in movement that affect each joint and the rest of your spine. We have been seeing alot more issues with clients feet lately due to over cushioned shoes. There are very few shoe companies out there that provide support as they once did. Over cushioned shoes allow for too much movement in footbed and ankle. Another issue that we have been finding in patients with chronic back pain is anatomical short legs, not a short leg due to a misaligned pelvic joint. We diagnose this issue with a lumbar x-ray and include the hip joints. This long term stress on the knee and hip joints greatly affects the back. Addressing these issues are critical to getting long lasting relief. Next time you are in the office, make sure to inform me of your lower extremity issues.
