🎉 Big news for the Avenues for Change team!
Please help us congratulate David Miller, who has officially passed his licensure exam and is taking the next step in his career as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC)! 🌿

David brings a supportive, encouraging and direct approach to counseling, helping clients feel heard while also giving them practical tools and encouragement to keep moving forward. His work includes supporting adolescents, adults, couples and families through concerns including trauma, anxiety, depression, substance use and more.

Becoming an LCPC represents years of education, supervised clinical experience, hard work and commitment to the people he serves—and we’re incredibly proud to have David as part of the Avenues for Change team.
Congratulations, David! This one is well earned.

Some events don't simply end when the scene is cleared.
Avenues for Change provides critical incident support and debriefing resources for first responders, healthcare teams, hospitals, organizations, and others impacted by difficult events.
The goal isn't to force anyone to talk or tell people how they should feel. It's to provide informed support, practical resources, and connection following an unusually stressful experience.
Because taking care of the people who respond matters, too.

Meet Summer 🌿
When Summer says she understands the unique pressures first responders face, that understanding comes from experience.
Summer Rhodes, LMSW, ARCH Certified, is not only a therapist—she’s also an Engineer with the Dodge City Fire Department and a firefighter/EMT. That firsthand perspective shapes the way she supports first responders, military personnel and others navigating trauma, crisis and some of life’s most difficult moments.

Summer’s approach to therapy is relaxed, compassionate and refreshingly real. She values honest conversations and meeting people exactly where they are, then working together to build practical steps toward healing, resilience and lasting wellness.

Her areas of focus include trauma and PTSD, first responder and military support, critical incident support, grief and bereavement, and animal-assisted therapy. Avenues for Change
And her commitment to helping others extends far beyond the therapy room. Summer leads the Southwest Kansas Dodge City 10-33 Foundation, volunteers in search and rescue, provides bereavement support through Hospice of the Prairie, works within a local school district—and even incorporates her therapy dogs into her work.

For Summer, helping people through hard things isn't just her profession. It's part of who she is.

First responders are trained to move toward situations most people spend their lives avoiding.
But when the call is over, the brain and body don't always leave the experience behind.

Changes in sleep, irritability, feeling constantly on alert, avoiding reminders of a call, withdrawing from family, or replaying an event can all be reasons to reach out for support.
At Avenues for Change, supporting first responders isn't an afterthought. It's a significant part of what we do.

You spend your career showing up for others. There should be a place that knows how to show up for you.

Meet Kenzie 🌿
For Kenzie, becoming a social worker is personal. Her passion for the field began after experiencing firsthand the difference a school social worker made in her own life—and the power of simply having someone who makes you feel heard, supported and understood.

Today, Kenzie is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) who brings that same sense of connection into her work with clients. Her approach is warm, collaborative and practical, helping people better understand how their experiences have shaped them while building tools to move forward.

Kenzie is EMDR trained and works with clients navigating trauma and PTSD, perinatal mental health, depression and mood challenges, relationships, and major life transitions.

Outside the therapy room, you’ll likely find her spending time with family, tackling a home project, getting creative with design, baking, reading or enjoying time outdoors.

At the heart of Kenzie’s work is something simple: healing happens through safe, supportive relationships. And she’s here to make sure you don’t have to navigate the hard stuff alone.

Substance use doesn't happen in a vacuum.
For some people, substances become a way to cope with trauma, stress, grief, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, or experiences they haven't known how to process.

That's why meaningful support looks beyond the behavior and gets curious about what's underneath it.

At Avenues for Change, we believe people deserve care that sees the whole person—not just a diagnosis, a mistake, or one chapter of their story.

There is an avenue forward.

Meet Kelley 🌿
Kelley believes you should be able to come to therapy exactly as you are.

As a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor-Supervisor and Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor, Kelley has a heart for walking alongside people through some of life’s hardest seasons. She has a special passion for supporting first responders, military members, healthcare and emergency personnel, and their families—with an understanding of the unique culture and experiences that can come with serving others.

Her approach is compassionate, honest and individualized. Kelley combines evidence-based, brain-based approaches with her Christian faith, helping clients work toward healing in a way that considers the mind, body and spirit. Her training includes EMDR, Brainspotting, DBT, TF-CBT and other trauma-focused approaches.

She also serves as lead clinician for the Central Kansas Debriefing and Peer Support Team, supporting first responders and others following critical incidents. Avenues for Change
Beyond the credentials, Kelley is a mom and grandmother who values genuine relationships, serving others and creating a place where people feel seen, heard and supported. Avenues for Change

For Kelley, there is always room for hope—and another avenue forward.

Therapy isn't only for the moments when everything feels like it's falling apart.

Sometimes it's recognizing that you're more irritable than usual. You're not sleeping well. You're carrying work home with you. You're avoiding things you used to enjoy. Or you simply don't feel like yourself.

You don't have to wait for things to get worse before reaching out.

Support can be preventative, too. 💚

Meet Christie 🌿

She specializes in trauma recovery and works closely with first responders, veterans and military families, healthcare professionals, mental health professionals, and their families. Her approach is warm, practical and collaborative—creating a space where clients can feel understood while finding tools that actually work for their lives.

Christie is EMDR- and DBT-trained and TF-CBT certified, with experience supporting clients through trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression, substance use, relationships, and other difficult seasons of life.

And outside the therapy room? Christie is a New Jersey native who loves living near the ocean and also serves on the Mercury Critical Incident Response Team.
For Christie, therapy isn't about having all the answers before you walk through the door. It's about having someone in your corner as you figure out what comes next.

🌿 Meet Christie and the rest of the Avenues for Change team at AvenuesForChange.org.
