๐Ÿ’œ Today is International Overdose Awareness Day.

Today, we remember the people whose lives have been lost to overdose.

We hold space for the families and friends who carry their absence.

We recognize those living with substance use disorders, those working toward recovery, and the people who continue to love and support them along the way.

And we remind our community of something incredibly important:

Recovery is possible. Help is available. And asking for it should never be met with shame.

Substance use disorder is not a moral failing. Behind every statistic is a personโ€”a parent, child, sibling, friend, coworker or neighbor whose life matters.

At The Center, our Substance Use Services are here to meet people where they are and help them determine what comes next. Whether someone is ready to begin treatment, has experienced a setback, or simply isn't sure where to start, reaching out can be the first step.

๐Ÿ’œ Today, we remember without stigma.
๐Ÿ’š We support without judgment.
๐ŸŒฑ And we keep making room for recovery and hope.

If you or someone you love is struggling, you don't have to have everything figured out before you reach out.

You just have to start the conversation.

๐Ÿ’š Mental health care doesn't always happen sitting across from someone in an office.

Sometimes it happens around a kitchen counter learning to cook.

Or while creating a piece of art. ๐ŸŽจ

It can happen while exercising, writing, learning how to navigate friendshipsโ€”or even bonding over trading cards.

At The Center, our psychosocial groups give children and adults opportunities to build skills, practice coping strategies, connect with others and work toward their individual goals in a supportive environment.

And the groups themselves can be pretty fun.

๐Ÿง’ Current Children's Groups include:

๐Ÿง  Neurodivergent Group
๐ŸŽจ Art Group
๐Ÿƒ Trading Card Group
๐Ÿค Friendship Group
๐ŸŒฑ Independent Living Group

๐Ÿง‘ Current Adult Groups include:

๐Ÿณ Cooking Class
๐ŸŽจ Creative Coping Skills
๐ŸŒฟ The Art of Leisure
๐Ÿ’ฌ Social Interactions
๐Ÿƒ Exercise
๐Ÿง Baking with Becky
โœ๏ธ Writing
๐Ÿ‘ฅ Male Group

Our group offerings change throughout the year based on the needs and interests of the people we serveโ€”so there's often something new happening.

Because building mental health skills doesn't have to look like just one thing.

Sometimes we're practicing communication.

Sometimes we're learning independence.

Sometimes we're finding healthy ways to cope or discovering a new interest.

And sometimes we're simply learning how to feel a little more comfortable connecting with the world around us. ๐Ÿ’š

Psychosocial groups are available to eligible clients based on individual needs and treatment goals. If you're receiving services at The Center and think a group could be helpful, talk with a member of your treatment team about what's available.

๐Ÿ๐Ÿฐ HOPEFEST JUST GOT A LITTLE CUTER.

We're excited to announce another addition to HopeFest...

A PETTING ZOO! ๐Ÿ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿ‘

Because apparently fitness classes, painting, bounce houses, self-defense, a car smash, art, shopping, food and comedy weren't quite enough. ๐Ÿ˜‚

But there's actually a pretty great mental health connection behind this one.

Animals have a special way of helping us slow down and be present.

๐Ÿพ They can provide comfort and companionship.

๐Ÿ’š Spending time with animals can create moments of calm and connection.

๐Ÿ˜Š They give us plenty of reasons to smile.

๐ŸŒฑ And caring for and connecting with animals can be a meaningful part of our overall wellbeing.

Sometimes supporting our mental health looks like therapy.

Sometimes it looks like movement, creativity or connection.

And sometimes...

it looks like stopping to pet a goat. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ˜‚

That's exactly what we want HopeFest to show: there are SO many ways to care for ourselves and find the things that bring a little more joy, connection and hope into our lives.

Come meet our furry HopeFest guests on September 19!

๐Ÿ’š When we say Mobile Crisis, we mean MOBILE.

When you or someone you love is experiencing a mental health crisis, sometimes a voice on the phone isn't enough.

That's why The Center's Mobile Crisis Team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a weekโ€”and our local team can come to you.

Day or night, our team can be deployed to meet you where you are, provide in-person support, help you through the immediate crisis, and work with you to determine what comes next.

You don't have to wait until the office opens.

You don't have to figure out where to go.

And you don't have to navigate a crisis alone.

๐Ÿ“ž Need our Mobile Crisis Team?
Call 620-792-2544 and choose Option 1.

And here's your reminder: you don't have to be an artist to enjoy making art.

Trying a new hobby, creating something with your hands and giving yourself permission to simply PLAY can all be good for our mental health.

๐ŸŽจ Creativity gives us another way to express ourselves.
๐Ÿ’š Hobbies can give our minds a break from everyday stress.
๐ŸŒฑ Learning something new can build confidence and a sense of accomplishment.
โœจ And sometimes, doing something just because you enjoy it is reason enough.

That's what HopeFest is all aboutโ€”giving our community opportunities to discover different ways to connect, create, move, laugh and take care of ourselves.

So come grab a paintbrush, try something new and see what you create!

Who's painting with you? Tag them below! ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐Ÿงธ To an adult, it might look like they're just playing.

But in play therapy, a whole lot more can be happening.

Children don't always have the words to explain what they're feeling, why they're worried, or what's happening inside their world.

Sometimes, play becomes their language.

In a play therapy room like this one at The Center, toys aren't simply there to keep kids entertained. They give children ways to express themselves, explore emotions, practice problem-solving, build confidence and work through difficult experiences in a way that feels natural to them.

A dollhouse can tell a story.
๐ŸŽจ Art can express a feeling that's hard to name.
๐Ÿฆ– Toys can help a child act out something they're trying to understand.
๐Ÿงฑ Buildingโ€”and knocking something downโ€”can create opportunities to practice coping with frustration.

And through it all, a trained therapist is there to listen, observe, support and help.

Because sometimes the most important conversations with a child don't happen with words. ๐Ÿ’š

At The Center, we're proud to offer services designed specifically around the ways children experience, communicate and understand their world.

Thereโ€™s more than one way to be part of HopeFest! ๐ŸŒฑโœจ

HopeFest isnโ€™t just something you attend โ€” itโ€™s something our community helps create. And there are still several ways for YOU to be part of the day:

๐ŸŽค Have a kid who loves to perform?

Sign them up to Share Their Spark in our Kids Talent Showcase! Singing, dancing, jokes, magic, instruments, unique talents โ€” we want to celebrate what makes them them.
https://wkf.ms/4xHT3a8

๐ŸŽจ Love expressing yourself through art โ€” or have a child or classroom who does?

Submit a piece for Because Every Story Deserves to Be Seen, our HopeFest community art gallery. Art can reflect mental health, healing, resilience, struggle, growth, recovery, hope โ€” or whatever those ideas look like through your eyes.
https://wkf.ms/492WGNU

๐Ÿฆ‹ Is there someone youโ€™d like us to remember?

During our Sunrise Remembrance Ceremony, we will recognize the names of loved ones and friends whose lives were lost to su***de, addiction, or other mental health challenges. You can submit a name to be included in this special time of remembrance.
https://www.thecentergb.org/hopefest/remembrance...

๐Ÿ’š Perform. Create. Remember. Participate.

However HopeFest connects with your story, thereโ€™s a place for you to be part of it.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Find all three sign-ups at thecentergb.org/hopefest or by clicking the links above.

08/19/2026

๐Ÿ’š Kids don't always say, "I'm stressed."

Sometimes it sounds more like...

"I'm tired."

"My stomach hurts."

"I don't want to go."

"Nobody likes me."

"I can't do it."

Or sometimes, it doesn't sound like anything at all.

It looks like more meltdowns. More irritability. Trouble sleeping. Clinginess. Withdrawing. Or behavior that seems to come out of nowhere.

As kids head back to school and routines change, remember that behavior can sometimes be communication.

Instead of only asking:

"What's wrong?"

Try:

๐Ÿ’ฌ "What's been the hardest part of your day lately?"

๐Ÿ’ฌ "Is there anything about school that's been making you nervous?"

๐Ÿ’ฌ "Do you want me to listen, help you figure it out, or just sit with you?"

Sometimes changing the question makes it a little easier for kids to tell us what they need. ๐Ÿ’š

Parentsโ€”what question gets YOUR kids talking? Share it below. You might give another parent something new to try.
