Head tilted to one side and the chin turned the other? It may be torticollis—but “twisted neck” describes the position, not the underlying cause.

Torticollis can result from muscle spasm, infant positioning, trauma, or a neurological condition. Because different causes can look similar, a proper evaluation is important.

The upper neck may also play a role. Over 50% of the and neck neck rotation occurs between the atlas (C1) and axis (C2), so evaluating the upper cervical region can be an important part of understanding abnormal head posture and restricted movement.

Dizziness, a racing heart, fatigue, and “normal” test results may be signs of dysautonomia—not just anxiety.

Because the upper neck is closely connected to the brainstem and nervous system, it may be an important area to evaluate.

Upper cervical care uses objective testing and 3D imaging to look for structural problems that may be affecting how your body functions.

Your ringing ears might actually be a neck problem. 🔊
The top two bones in your neck sit right beside your brainstem and the structures that control ear pressure. When they shift, the ringing can follow.
Quick test: does your tinnitus change when you turn your head or clench your jaw? If yes — it's likely coming from your upper neck, not your ear canal.

What if the ringing in your ears isn’t coming from your ears?

Some types of tinnitus are connected to the neck. Quick test: clench your jaw, turn your head, or press the back of your neck. Does the ringing change? If so, your upper neck may be part of the problem.

The atlas (top of the neck) sends signals to the same brainstem area that processes sound. When it’s misaligned, the brain can interpret that irritation as ringing. It’s why tinnitus often starts after a whiplash, concussion, fall, or years of poor posture.

At New York Upper Cervical Chiropractic , we focus on the upper cervical spine so your nervous system can settle.

Still struggling with tinnitus after hearing tests and specialists? The missing piece may be your neck. 👂

Trigeminal neuralgia is often treated as a facial nerve problem — but the upper neck may also play a role.

The trigeminal nerve’s pain-processing pathway extends into the upper cervical spinal cord near C1 and C2, right at the craniocervical junction.

When the atlas shifts from whiplash, falls, sports injuries, or posture stress, it may irritate nearby neurological pathways and contribute to facial pain patterns.

At New York Upper Cervical Chiropractic, we use precise imaging to evaluate the atlas — with no twisting, cracking, or guessing.

If you’re struggling with trigeminal neuralgia or unexplained facial pain, your neck may be worth a closer look.

POTS is more than just heart rate changes — the nervous system may be part of the missing piece.

The atlas, or C1 vertebra, sits just below the skull near the brainstem, vagus nerve pathways, and important blood-flow structures. When this area is misaligned, it may contribute to autonomic stress, dizziness, brain fog, fatigue, and other unexplained symptoms.

Upper cervical care is not a cure for POTS, but for some patients, it may be an important area to evaluate.

Gentle. Precise. No cracking or twisting.

John’s story is one you don’t forget.

A firefighter who was inside the building on 9/11—and survived. Since then, he’s faced ongoing neurological challenges, including Meniere’s disease, headaches and hearing difficulties.

When he first came in, he relied on hearing aids. On his next visit, he came in without hearing aids and told us he was able to enjoy running, even listening to music while he runs.

Now he’s hearing better, moving better, and getting ready for a marathon in California. 🏃‍♂️

Resilience is powerful. When the body functions better, life starts to open up again!
