🧠 Could better sleep help protect your brain?
Growing research continues to link obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) with cognitive decline, memory problems, and an increased risk of dementia. A recent HealthDay article: "More Evidence Links Sleep Apnea to Dementia and Memory Loss" highlights additional evidence supporting the connection between sleep-disordered breathing and long-term brain health.
Sleep apnea is more than just snoring. Repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep can disrupt restorative sleep and reduce oxygen levels throughout the night.
⚠️ Common signs of sleep apnea may include:
• Loud or persistent snoring
• Gasping or choking during sleep
• Witnessed pauses in breathing
• Morning headaches
• Daytime fatigue or sleepiness
• Difficulty concentrating or problems with memory
The takeaway: Don’t ignore the signs of sleep apnea. Identifying and treating sleep-disordered breathing may be an important part of protecting your overall health — including your brain health.
If you or someone you love is experiencing symptoms, consider scheduling with Dr. Josh Werber and Dr. Karen Haunss who are both ENT/sleep specialists.
