We often think wellness comes from big changes, major breakthroughs, or finally “getting it all together.”

But the truth is that mental health is built in the small moments. MindBodyConnection TherapyTools AspenCounseling MentalWellness HealingJourney ProgressNotPerfection YouMatter

🌿 Wellness Wednesday 🌿

When stress starts to take over, one of the best things you can do is come back to the present moment.

The 5-4-3-2-1 grounding technique helps shift your focus away from anxious thoughts and back to what’s happening right now. By engaging your senses, you remind your nervous system that you are here, you are safe, and you can handle this moment.

✨ 5 things you can see
✨ 4 things you can touch
✨ 3 things you can hear
✨ 2 things you can smell
✨ 1 thing you are grateful for

Small moments of grounding can create big shifts in how we feel.

Save this post for the next time life feels overwhelming. 🤍

🏳️‍🌈 Happy Pride Month 🏳️‍🌈

Pride is more than a celebration.

It’s visibility.
It’s community.
It’s safety.
It’s the message that every person deserves to be seen, valued, and accepted exactly as they are.

As therapists, we know that feeling accepted for who you are isn’t just comforting—it’s protective. Research consistently shows that affirming environments and supportive relationships can significantly improve mental health outcomes and reduce the risk of depression, anxiety, self-harm, and su***de among LGBTQ+ individuals.

That’s why Pride matters.

Because when people are welcomed instead of rejected, affirmed instead of shamed, and loved instead of judged, lives are changed.

And sometimes, lives are saved.

At Aspen Counseling, we are committed to creating a space where all identities, relationships, and experiences are met with compassion, respect, and affirmation.

You belong here. 🌈🤍

Sunday Scaries: Brain Edition 👻

Ever notice how you may feel on edge, stressed and even sad at the end of the weekend.

There’s actually a reason for that.

Your brain’s primary job is to keep you safe—not necessarily happy. When the weekend starts winding down, your brain begins scanning for potential stressors, responsibilities, and “what ifs” that might be waiting for you in the week ahead.

The problem? Your brain often can’t tell the difference between a real threat and an imagined one.

So while you’re trying to enjoy your Sunday evening, your brain is over there like:
🚨 “Let’s prepare for every possible scenario just in case.”

Thanks, brain. Very helpful. 😅

If you’re feeling the Sunday Scaries tonight, try reminding yourself:

✨ Thoughts are not predictions.
✨ Worry is not preparation.
✨ You don’t have to solve next week’s problems today.

Wellness Wednesday 🌿

Your nervous system is constantly working to determine one thing: Am I safe?

When we feel overwhelmed, anxious, overstimulated, or emotionally flooded, sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is pause and reconnect with our body.

✨ Hello and welcome! ✨

As I’m restarting my business social media account, I wanted to take a moment to reintroduce myself and say hello to both familiar and new faces joining this space.

My name is Brittney Abuso, MS, LMFT, and I am the owner and founder of Aspen Counseling.

I work with individuals, couples, and families, approaching therapy through an attachment-focused, trauma-informed lens. I’m passionate about helping people better understand themselves and their relationships while creating a space that feels safe, supportive, and authentic.

I believe our experiences shape us, our relationships matter deeply, and healing often begins when we feel seen, understood, and connected.

I’m excited to use this space to share resources, education, encouragement, and a little bit of the heart behind the work I do.

I’m so glad you’re here 🤍
