It's almost time for back-to-school!
Being a parent can feel like being a taxi service or Uber driver most days. The start of school brings new schedules, routines, and drop-offs/pick-ups. All of this leads to holding stress in your body. This stress shows up in symptoms like:
-Headaches
-Back pain
-Tight hip muscles
-Tense shoulders
-Clenched jaw
-Difficulty sleeping
Getting a few moments for yourself when you're a parent, especially in this busy season, can be difficult. We know! So, we recommend using a few moments throughout your day, nothing long or complicated, to give back to your body. Might we suggest drop-off and pick-up as being time for YOU, since you have to wait anyways?
Try some of these simple things to reduce the stress held within your body:
-Neck tilt: Drop your right ear to your right shoulder and hold for 15 seconds. Repeat on the left side.
-Seated twist: Gently twist your upper body to one side and then the other. Use the frame or seat for assistance and to deepen the stretch.
-Knee lift: Bring each knee up towards the ceiling, holding for 5 seconds. Alternate knees for a few rounds.
For a little relaxation and tension release, try:
-Box breathing: Inhale while counting to four, hold your breath for 4, exhale slowly for 4, and hold your breath again for 4. Repeat as often as necessary.
-5-4-3-2-1 method: Where you sit right now, think about 1 thing you can taste, 2 things you can smell, 3 things you can touch, 4 things you can hear, and 5 things you can see.
-Stare off into the distance, giving your eyes and brain a break from looking down at your phone. Added bonus is being able to look at something in nature, like a tree or flower!
Remember, chiropractic adjustments can help with your stress-related symptoms. Dr. Leah and Dr. Brooke at Turning Point Chiropractic care have additional training in caring for families. Schedule an adjustment for the whole family. Take care of yourself while you take care of your children this school year!
